(although calling the locust workable may be a bit of a stretch)

Shadow Hawk is just hella fun all over. My only issue with it is feeling useless after I run out of ammo and am left with only one or two Medium Lasers to pew pew with.
Thunderbolt I haven't put too much time into playing with but what little I did with it was enjoyable. Just waiting until I finish up the other three before really diving into it.
Battlemaster is a really fun Assault mech. Don't think it will replace the Victor as my favorite but I think I might enjoy it more than the Highlander and Atlas.

But Locust lances can be OH so fun, lol. I was trolling last night with some other HARD members, in a Locust lance. We accounted for over 1500 damage and 5 kills on Tourmaline. Killing that THUD took positively forever though. Smaller maps, not so good, lol.
THUDs are the ones I am least in love with, sadly, but even they, once I stopped using "conventional" wisdom, are starting to shape up. Never going to be the Alpha Monster a Jager can be, but it is remarkably tough if I remember to twist. Just wish it's largely laser loadout didn't somewhat impede that.
In most cases, the Shoulder hunches I would have expected to = death on them. Turns out, on all but my BLRs, they tank just fine with the Hunch and an XL, which has my Hunchies turning green with envy. Biggest mistake I am still seeing on the PHX is people either eschewing XLs for "survivability", or running about in such over-engined monstrosities that they have peas shooters for firepower. All of them are much more generalist mechs that IMO; work best either at or slightly above stock speeds, with XLs and armed to the gills.

Um, there might be a reason for that.
Because 1) They are not unlocked, hence, not as agile or cool running, and 2) Have not had time to optimize their builds yet, especially those of use trying to grind out 12 different mechs. But hey, if ya feel we are easy targets, all can say is "come at me bro!"

Sorry Colonel Sanders, but you're wrong! Freakign Shad could be the best medium in the game, and the BLR is just fine. Thud, well, that is a bit sub standard.

i feel you man its kind of ******** how my shadow hawk is bigger than some heavies carries less guns and in some cases heavies run faster than me if i want to actually bring some heat, o and the armor absolutely sucks balls on the shadow hawk.... gotta love getting you CT armor melted after 3 secs of combat, all in all it really just needs a big speed bump and maybe some more armor FFS

Hey man, I love my Thud.
That said, I also love my Dragons.
YMMV

The Locust can be a lot of fun, and if you pop an arty and or air strike on them, they can be even mroe fun, theyr;e just SOOOoooo maneuverable.
Shad is probably my favorite of the group, the Thud with jets my second. Overall however, I'm very happy with the Phoenix mechs, I played more this weekend then I had in over 4 months.
