This module needs a huge price hike or a reduction in effectiveness.

Sniping is an all too prevalent and boring style of play that encourages static strategies instead of mastering movement and group combat. Coupled with the ease of use of long range ballistics, this is a huge problem when you look at it from a variety perspective. Too often half or more of a team is just ridge sniping from unreal distances with little or no risk for their reward.

Hey, New Guy,

If you had any idea how useless Zoom was since day one, you wouldn't be spouting this tripe...

Price is fine, I never thought I'd live to see the day when someone said that Zoom was OP.

Sniping is only easy when the enemy is standing still. It takes a cosiderable amount of skill to snipe an enemy who even tries to be evasive and use cover. Working as intended IMO. Also the zoom module was all but useless just little while back and the good snipers learned to shoot without it. makes no difference other than easing the way for newer players (which is good, since I love to shoot them in the head while they stand still trying to "snipe" me with a LL from 900m)

Actually since they fixed it, it's nowadays very usefull. Far from op though, but I do take it instead of seismic on my long range setups (that is if I only have 2 module slots, other is sensor range in most cases).

The price is right.

Cover. Learn to use it.

I'm not getting destroyed by snipers. I just want me team to move out and do something rather than just camp in a huge blob and snipe. Is that so wrong?

This. Good snipers work just fine without Adv Zoom; and it's so damn nice to be actually useful now.

If you find snipers with adv. zoom are a big problem, just move more. It's still easy to hit people at extreme range, but very difficult to place shots on intended components when the target is mobile. Unfortunately, so many players are just bad, and stand still, even after taking fire.

Gah. Don't know how to embed video with a time reference. See link above, or the video here at 2:52:

I take it on some of my long range builds, but it's a tough choice when I've only got two module slots. Seismic, consumables, targeting modules, etc all vie for the slots.

This. Further, increasing the price won't cause substantially fewer to be used. People who have them will still have them, and others will take a smidge longer to get them or just move them between mechs instead of buying multiples.

Its fine, really. They're potentially giving up on other more useful modules to get it, like seismic, adv. target info gathering, UAV, coolshot, arty, airstrike, etc etc etc

I see your points, but I still want my team to move out rather than sit still.

Shoot them in the back. SPLAS makes for a great cattle-prod.

Sniping is an art form. Using the 4x Zoom Module in the chaos that is the battlefield is not easy because of the following:

1. The image is very unstable during traverse.
2. The Module itself is a digital zoom, not a true magnification system.
3. Missile lock indicators stutter around as do target friendly or hostile indicator.
4. We have no real Sniping weapons. I mean anything with a range out to 1.5km.

As for the Module price! Its probably about right, but some would say its way over priced because of the image quality.

I'm glad someone FINALLY got the nerve to post somethign about how snipers are op. Kudos! I have no idea what we would do if we didn't have brave souls posting on sniping and poptarting.

Uhm seriously though, it's 2 million c-bills per mech. That's half the price of an entire mech for one system PLUS 5000 gxp before you can even use it. It's far from "cheap"
