I just bought a HGN-733C and I'm playing with it in Smurfy's, but I haven't had a chance to test this loadout yet.

Any thoughts?

I'd have more armor on the front, at least 60 on STs and 100 on CT.

The JJs are able to let you turn pretty quick to protect your back.

And I would consider getting an XL engine. An XL 325 works nicely.

Edit: adding build link.

I used to run that build, but with one more streak. then went to dual uac5's till they got buffed then moved to ac5's, when I got bored with that I moved to lb10x, ac5, 2 erlarge, 2srm4 and never looked back. if you are going to keep that build put endo on it, drop a couple heatsinks for another streak and another ton of streak ammo and a std 300 engine imo.

I would load at least 4tons of Ac20 ammo, not to happy with streak 2, rather have srm6.

I run THIS.

A little faster, better armored, more jump, better against non-ECM lights. But also shorter range and less heat dissipation.

I think that I actually like this idea the best.

At first, I laughed at the thought of sticking an XL engine in an assault mech. But then I realized that, if I lost my right torso, I might as WELL be dead as I just lost about 90% of my firepower. lol

Edit: Though I may swap out a little leg armor and add it to my left arm, as I'll be using that arm to shield myself while on weapon cooldown.

You could lose an ST early that is certainly a risk, but I've often been cored out or had my most of my armor stripped off by that time anyway. JJs and torso twist.

Highlanders are surprisingly survivable with XLs, and if one is not using SRMs on the left side then there's less risk anyway since good players tend to try to focus down that right ST anyway, and the Streaks are more to harass lights anyway.

Stalkers and Atlas' are the ones that certainly are fail with XLs, IMHO.

I disagree.

I've been running this HGN with XL the whole time:
HEAVY METAL 119 69 50 1.38 194 67 2.90 61,457 122,048
12:04:26
Not my best mech but one of my better ones.

Running XL325, 2LLas, 1UAC/5, 1AC5, 2ASRM6's. Best rounds are around 1200dmg in this thing.

BTW OP, looks like a build worth trying and see how it goes from there. Nothing wrong with it, the suggestion to the change with the XL 325 looks good too.

The Highlanders Vs.the World contest winner said he was running a 325XL, IIRC.

XL or STD is fine in the HGN.

There are some mechs that you should NEVER run XL's in this isn't one of them, different builds work with XL and some well with STD.

My HGN-733C is a knife range brawler. The LLs or ER LLs aren't bad, but I prefer having lots of SRMs. Last I checked the 3SRM6+Artemis is still bugged, so it's down to a 6 & a 4 in the LT and a 6 in the arm. Get in close and smash. Use the JJs for turning maneuvering. So it's best to save the lasers for back up, only use them to finish someone off or if you need that little bit of extra damage.

I may swap out the streak 2's for an ASRM 6 and ASRM 4 later. I haven't really played around with streaks much, so I wanted to give them a shot.

They're useful for hammering lights, but not so much the bigger mechs. Putting 12-18 SRMs into the CT of an enemy assault with an AC/20 is a good way to quickly end a fight. The Streaks? They'll hit arms and legs more often than Torso.

The problem with the Highlander is if you loose all the weapons on your left side (left torso destruction fro example) you end up with this... not really much use to the team is it?

Thats the man reason why an XL in a Highlander isnt such a bad idea. it has Jumpjets so that means it is also maneuverable enough to easily spread damage across all 5 (8 if you count rear armor) upper torso sections.

Depends. If I lose my AC and my lasers I've still got 16 SRM tubes. That's worth something.

Thanks, fellas. You've all given me ideas to think about. For right now, I'm going to work on farming the cbills to buy the XL 325 so that I can roll with this:

I haven't used him since Phoenix pack came out but I believe I recall running mine with LB10X, 2 PPC, 2 SRM 6 + SRM4. Another popular assault build is an AC/20 with 2 PPC. 20 damage at long range, 40 at medium, 20 at short -- all pinpoint. Though you'd have to sacrifice some missles for more AC ammo. I had been running around with LB10X for so long I forgot how fun the AC/20 was though. I put AC/20 and 2 medium lasers on my Shadow Hawk 5M a couple days back; essentially turned him into a Hunchback that can fly. I had a match last night doing 600 damage, 4 kills, 5 assists, 4 component destructions. AC/20 sure does pack a whollop. You just don't get many shots per ton so only shoot when you can aim to hit.
