You're doing a pure clay-sculpture... no wire mesh or anything to support and give it's basic shape before applying material to it? I hope when you're finished and bake/glaze it... there's no cracks. I did a sculpture once of this awesome little roboty-figure (kinda resembled Megaman) and yeah... wish I had actually done it correctly, the finished product was cracking and splitting in areas, too heavy that at one point an arm actually fell off... was a sad day for creativity in my world LOL!

No. It's an aluminum armature wire with a tinfoil compressed core. The clay is a 40/60 mix of sculpey and sculpey firm (Polymer clay for anyone who hasn't used it). It makes it soft enough to still work it over the core but retains detail. For something this big, I'll likely spot cure the sections with my heat gun and then bond a new layer of clay on top for further detail with a near 100% mix of sculpey firm for fine cut.

Very cool... will have to keep that in mind next time I attempt to do a sculpture. Looking forward to more pics!
