Coop With Friends Against Npcs ?

I tried to get my friends to play MWO with me, so we all installed the game and started playing. We all got totally murdered and were not having any fun so we just gave up and played Left for Dead 2 instead.
Is there a way to setup a game where it's just us against an NPC army ? And I don't mean just 10 bots and first team to kill all the players of the other team wins the round, I mean something with objectives like take this enemy base then hold it for 5 minutes then escape while protecting an APC.
That would make the game fun for us because the plain team deathmatch stopped being fun back when we played quake 2

I might hasten to add this game has a pretty formidable learning curve. It's not like many of the "drop in, shoot stuff, respawn, do it again" games out there. When you die, you die for the remainder of the match. That being said, I would encourage you and your friends to hang in there, once you get the basics down, it's a thoroughly enjoyable game.

Click the robot icon next to Launch (to its left) to get into testing grounds. You can only get into it solo, unfortunately.
Remember to group up using Social, Adding each other. Then create a group, add players to group. Launch together.

Plus this game is p2w, players provide the content (or, targets for other players to kill).
So there isn't much incentive for PGI to give provide players vs. NPC material.

I would ask in what way you believe the game is P2W - I.E. Pay to Win - I.E. what you can only get by paying real money will make it more likely for you to win....
Hero mechs? No stronger stat-wise than their counterparts, and usually weaker - only bonus is a bonus for reducing grind time for Cbills....
Champion Mechs? Exactly like the non-champion equivalents, but with an XP bonus rather than the Hero's Cbill bonus...
Consumables? Don't make me laugh - you can get the exact same thing for Cbills with a fair grind...
Mechbays? Only need 3 to master a mech, and you start with 4....
Paint/Patterns? If you argue about THOSE being P2W I would ask what you are smoking...
And that is ALL that you get for real money that you cannot get for Cbills.
Edit: clarification on champions/heros

Its not a new-player friendly game in any amount, the tutorials help, but without an AI to practice against, things are a little difficult.
But keep at it, the flipside of playing against other people is you ARE playing WITH other people, most of which will actually help you if you ask, give it a try, ask if people would be willing to help new players and you'll get referred to quite a few different clan sites that have people who's reason for playing is helping new players

I could be mistaken but I believe he meant "play 2 win" in that instance. Or pay to get stuff. There's no incentive to make content for players to fight NPCs. Really there isn't.
But then again at the same time, it'd be hard to believe that PGI would conjure A.I. that could understand the very mechanics set by the game. I think what we'd see would be limited to tanks and infantry during matches against other players. And I sincerely doubt that will ever happen.
PGI will supposedly make a mechwarrior game with a campaign after renewing interest in the mechwarrior franchise. It's my hope they take very different approaches to balancing when they do.

Try to get your friends into a unit, so you can play with other like minded people. It'll make the game far, far more interesting.

This. ^^^
I would gladly put my hand in my pocket again, (and so would many of my crew) for a LAN / CO OP campaign for MWO.
Keep MWO online seperate like MW tactics is.
Have another build, MWCOOP.
PGI would not have to worry about Ghost Heat, Boating etc because the AI NPC's would all be scripted to trigger at certain actions with certain Mechs. You and your buds could run whatever you felt like based on the mission location and objectives. A one on one duel mode or Arena mode with your friends and multiple AI could be a great feature as well.

Regretfully it is a mod and can be a bit buggy with the attack the dropship missions.
Hope this helps.

Kon's right, of course, I meant "play 2 win" or to be more precise I wanted to type "free 2 play" but lack of caffeine severely impaired my coherence.

Unfortunately, it's not a free download anymore, since MekTek couldn't be bothered anymore and transferring rights was not possible due to the legal circumstances...

Never trust people who code on the street

Though the AI would be potentially problematic due to, well, the game being pretty deep.

Dontcha just love how we have multiple phrases that are all the same (bad can mean something is 'good' OR well... 'bad' anymore...) like P2W being both Play to Win AND Pay to Win.... two very opposing concepts .... >.<
And we wonder why people have a hard time with our language or simply communicating in general.

I am surprised there isn't a way to do this, the game is so nice otherwise the graphics are amazing and the feeling of being inside that mech is really good, I am going to buy an Oculus Rift soon and with a buttkicker shaking my chair every time the mech takes a step is so cool !
