I am deeply surprised by the level of depth this topic has generated and will take a moment to respond as effectively to the responses as possible.
@feartheamish, you are right. My tone was inconsistent and I should not have used the term "troll" without the appropriate levity. I don't like to play with them, but that is my problem not theirs.
@text1013, that is an amazing post and I wonder if there might be a field of study somewhere in this topic that the developers of all titles could look at. You gave me some perspective on the aforementioned min/maxers that I did not have before and I now understand more about them
@krivven, by simple I originally meant narrow focused. I don't like builds, either playing or against, that remove aspects of gameplay. The high pinpoint builds really heavily on maximizing peakaboo style tactics that make my favorite part of the game very difficult. In the same way I don't enjoy members of my team that dedicate themselves to singular tasks like lobbing lrms. Both valid tactics, but to my eyes very boring.
@funkadelic mayhem, I feel that the article presented is illuminating as a reference for those individuals who enjoy high level play to those who do not. I feel that the tone ruins what could be a very effective teaching tool in the same way my own almost took a novel concept for a discussion and made it personal. I don't agree with the central premise that I am not enjoying myself and would add that we all concede to social contracts like "honor" I just feel that competitive players do it to a much lesser degree. But let me be clear, I don't fault them I just don't want to play with them.
@mike29tx, You might be right. I often get frustrated when facing vastly superior players or when severely crippled by a new mechs lack of upgrades but I did like your personal explanation. I think you more eloquently explained my enjoyment of this title than I did.
@wolfways, The tone there was inappropriate and the addition unnecessary. I don't like snipers in this title because they force players to remain in cover and punish the ones that want a moving line of conflict. But once again, players that enjoy aren't bad inherently just not fun for me to play against. Even when counter-sniping successfully I find it a laborious task rather than a fun challenge.
@roland, I didn't explain myself appropriately. What I mean was solving a multitude of solutions, many of which are from playing older MW titles, that involve dealing with several threat levels in the same build. I don't often play mechs that aren't designed to be useful in all stages of conflict, and I hate playing ones that have a single use because in pugs it is a gamble. It is frustrating to build something for brawling on the sprawling maps when I have no choices about what my teammates do or the maps themselves.
@ecto cooler, and that is why I want a method for pleasing the masses. Whether it be through more dynamic scenarios, a better matchmaker, or more complex interrelations between parts and people.
@mawai, exactly. I know people enjoy this game in different ways than I do. I want the people with the crazy builds with a million points of pinpoint damage to have fun challenging each other as well as those of us with different ideas in mind, I just can't do mine when they are playing without wading through a dozen or so frustrating games.
Sorry about the wall of text.
