Something that seems to be a recurring theme when I see players that are waaaaaay behind everyone else by a few minutes on a losing match is they always whine about the fact that we didn't help them when they got swarmed by lights (we were all dead or busy, we can't) or whine about all of us dying during the time that they were AFK. Sometimes they start marching to the fight, but turn back early on and go and hug the base when they encounter a single light, and then whine when they die along with the rest of us.
Do you also encounter players who act like this as well? Just curious.

I see it happen more then I hear them whine about it. Example: Spider makes run for our base, 4 heavies chase, spiders mission accomplished. The rest of us get mobbed by their entire team and when they're done with us they proceed to dismantle 4 remaining mechs as they wonder what the heck has happened to the rest of their team.

:D This happens way to often!

"Don't chase the squirrel" is a lesson that all mechwarriors learn eventually. Assault pilots tend to have to learn it fastest.

They have no right to complain. If they chose to defend, they should have been aware of the risks when they made their decision. If they went AFK, they deserve the loss (and the ridicule) for being the dead weight on their team. If they are being swarmed by lights then they should request help, but if they do not stay close enough to their team mates for them to have a realistic chance of assisting them, then they are on their own.

On the other hand, if they were killed because their team was close enough to help, and failed to do so despite not being engaged at the time, or because the people they were with abandoned them to certain death when the player got swarmed, I can see why they would be angry. You should always try to assist a team mate if it is in your ability to do so. If you are not, then you are not being a good team mate, and you shoulder part of the blame for the loss.

Completely terrible tactic. Especially when it is an entire lance.

They let the rest of their team go fight a likely 8v12. And everyone here should be well aware how badly MWO snowballs when one side is down a 'mech or two.

If the 8 guys actually do REALLY well. Hold their own, take some down, dish some damage, the base guys then get some easy clean up at the end and act as though they were right all along. If the 8 guys get rolled, then the guys at base act as though it is because they get {Scrap} PUGs on their team.

Nowadays if I see a pre-made doing that, I just convince all the PUGs to stay at base behind those pre-mades.

if you go directly to enemy base there is often disconnects sitting, worth a look for a speedy lite wanting a kill on his match card.

take the risk check it out and if things get hot boot it out of there and hook up with any of your own who seem to have formed a group.

if it was a real team match I wouldn't but solo you realy have no obligations.

Ah, killing disconnects is one thing, I'm talking about the people who have the guts to whine about how we didn't help them after they left us all out to dry while they were AFK or base camping.

If someone deliberately stays behind hoping to mop up easy kills when the enemy are damaged they fully deserve it when the team they tried to use get killed and leave them facing the whole enemy team.

On the other hand assaults have every right to be vexed when they follow the faster team members at top speed but get deliberately left behind for lights to torture while the faster mechs get themselves killed attacking without any assaults.

I generally walk along side the slow ones untill the first engagements then once the pug team fragments and retreats like cowards I abandon them and run like a lunatic spraying machine gun fire left and right untill someone stops me.

awsome fun.

like I say, I owe them nothing and if all they do is run away im no use in a lite anyway.

Yeah, have to agree it sucks to get left behind. ;)

Hehe, another thing you can do is be in a squad and teamspeak with someone and work fire support with those machine guns.
I've found it amusing to march around behind Atlases blowing off their back armor and grinding through their core as they focus on a big scary mech in front of them

also my ping is fairly high, between 315 to 400 at its worst. not sure how well team speak will affect the game in terms of increasing disconects.
