For the DEVs
I was in my Battlemaster getting rained on as you do. & I had a thought...

I present the Incoming missile awareness module.
Its function:
  • Give the Mechwarrior A heads up on the direction of the incoming missiles, Like the damage indicator.
  • You might want to make it range specific E.G: Normal 300meters advanced450meters.
  • ???
Thank you for your time

Maybe, what color and style would the indicators take?

I guess it could be tied to the compass (and maybe the minimap) if possible.

If I'm going to equip a module on my mech, it would need to make a noticeable difference. I don't think this proposed module would. It may tell you where the missiles are coming from, but you can just figure that out by looking around. Honestly though, when Betty tells you you've got incoming, your first thought is to take cover, not from where. You usually have a good idea where they are coming from. If not, the damage indicator is good enough. The range would also have to be much higher, say 750 meters for it to matter. LRMs are really not all that slow. I'd rather have less cockpit shaking than this module (one of their upcoming modules, btw).

Rather than a Module, I'd rather see it as a capability integrated into AMS that becomes active when and only when AMS is equipped (since AMS itself would need early-detection capability in order to function in the first place). :)

Another way around this would be to introduce a more advanced form of AMS that actually flashes a red dot on the compass ring to indicate the direction of incoming LRM's. Add to this an incoming tone, similar to a Missile lock tone. Obviously the upgraded AMS would cost more than the standard unit; for the purposes of making it worth while to PGI, it could be a MC only component.

So the massive warning that pops up on your HUD, combined with a generously slow flight speed is not enough to help you dodge LRMs? Even in an assault mech, if you are getting hot by LRMs it is usually because you are out of position. Also, please don't look at the missiles as they arc towards you as I seem to watch so many people do. Instead, twist your torso and spread the damage out as much as possible while you hit cover.

Cool
Sometimes it helps to spread the damage when one cannot get to cover.
:D
