I got behind the enemy used my TAG and the enemy got smashed, took out a light who came back to get me and ran of another, he was getting rained on so he decided to bug out.

The second match, i was also able to pull of some good tagging and spotting, although not as good as this one. :)

Was this a PUG? LRMs seem in massive decline as of late.

Nah, no decline in LRMs in PUG matches that I have seen. Pretty steady 1-2 a match.

The answer to the topic title:

Suicidal pilot or Target Practice

I wish I were trolling about the latter, but that's what they've been to me more often than not.

A scrappy light it is not. The thing is frail but it has great speed. I've had decent success on the 1V with an ERLL and 2xMG. Hang back and pick at people with the ERLL, add MG if someone gets close.

Locusts exist so you can grind missile robots really quickly using streaks.

They still suck most of the time, you basically have to be near death for them to kill you, and even then all you need is a few lucky hits to core them or leg them.

OK for scouting (all other light mechs are your worst enemy with this one)

Good for returning to base rapidly to chase away cappers in assault.

Really good for cleaning up weakened enemy mechs that have run astray and harassing slow-moving assault mechs.

Best for.... practicing your pilot skills. After a couple dozen matches in this fragile thing you are much better with your other mechs. It really teaches you awareness and you learn to make more of your hits count.

The only thing that Lolcusts are good for is making you destroy your own braincells via you constantly smashing your head against the desk as hard as you can any time an enemy mech looks in your general direction for more than five seconds.

The Locust is good for being a Locust. Nothing more, nothing less. It is a different flavor of mech for the game.

Personally, I've been having lots of fun with my Locusts, though I have been liking my Thunderbolt and Shadow Hawks a little more to be honest.

Edit: Replaced god for good... my fingers have impaired vision, so they couldn't see what they where typing.

Locusts are good for skirting around conflict, collecting intel, collecting capture points, relaying target locations, and occasionally zipping in and out of combat while splashing enemies that are busy engaging other units. If you're trying to fly your Locust the same way you fly your Raven, you are Doing It WrongTM.

Once scouting becomes more useful and weight limits are in locusts will have a place. Locusts will be way to scout while taking up the least amount of your team's tonnage.

I find the Locust a nice break from the mechs I usually play. Most of my mechs can't break 100 kph, the Locust leaves it in the dust.

A two man drop, although he took a sniper build so was no help. I had mechs come back to chase me, but due to my speed I coukd eun away and come back, same guy kept coming back to deal with me but I just kept running away. Due to your speed you can get back in positon very quickly. A few did see me a fired of a few shots but I got back to cover quickly and moved position, to keep tagging again. Have to keep an eye on the enemy and if they turn round to you, you have to hide.

Locust is a thinking man's mech, spot, tag, disrupt, they are your tenents.

Heh, that is so frustrating, but I do the same thing in mine. You really don't have a choice but to exploit your speed to make yourself a real PITA.

The locust does not exist for a particular reason.

Its bad, and literally any other light can do whatever you want to do with a Locust, but 10x better.

What is to stop a Jenner or Spider from also taking a Tag, having JJ's and more armor (and with the raven, spider and commando ECM) and spotting?

Nevermind the fact that even the commando is better at killing things. Much better. And you'll also die less, which is nice.

I dunno, I'm ten times less impressed by a good performance in any of those.

I typically out do half my team in my Locust, with the occasional bad match of course. This includes people playing Atlases and Stalkers...

It's the thrill of the challenge. It's a different flavor of mech. It doesn't have to have a reason to be in the game. It's a different mech from the battletech universe, it was used, so it is in the game. I love it for what it is, a 20 ton mech that is a challenge to play with.

(Plus, every kill you get in a Locust is just an amazing feeling, and people should feel shamed for being killed my a Locust! Not to mention, when you have expectations of doing little to no damage in a match, you can't get lower than your expectations. No disappointment with this mech. It makes those 300+ damage matches all the sweeter when they do happen.)
