Hey guys,

Been running MWO for a while on this rig, and after 12v12 implimentation the fps got to almost unplayable levels. Heated battles dip into a 5-10 range.

Seemingly not a GPU issue, since all settings produce same results, and training ground runs fine, in the 50-60 range.

My guess is the CPU, since I'm running a server workstation on an Opteron, but maybe something can be spotted in the DXDiag. Here are system specs:

2 x Opteron 6272 16-core, 2.1GHz, 3.0GHz turboboosted
64gb DDR3 1600
PNY geforce 660ti 2gb
.... some HDDs, forget what.

Very frustrating since all other games, even processor hungry stuff like Arma 3, work just fine.

Thanks in advance,
diag in the spoiler.

MWO likes high strength single core's. So a 16 core system wont help much if ur only running at 2.1ghz or so.

Yeah, Cryengine 3 wants 2-4 cores at a higher frequency. Stange that you get big a desparity when you're dealing with multiple mechs though. I suggest trying to turn off damage glow and turn down the visual settings of the mechs a bit. There's also a FPS soltuion that might help in the forums somewhere.

There's virtually no difference between playing at 1024x768 lowest settings and 1920x1200 max. In lowest I'd get a boost outside of combat, but the same dip when in a skirmish. In that sense it's better to stay maxed out, since the mean FPS is closer to the combat FPS.

I have to say, as a game dev, I'm pretty curious as to what exactly sucks up the CPU in this game. With no AI, simple ballistics (ie not calculating ricochets or semi-permeable objects), no complex physics, only 24 active characters...

I doubt cryengine is the only factor in the number-crunching hunger, suspect a wee bit of coding sloppiness somewhere.

But back on point, a number of people, myself including, have pointed out that CPU cores are not being fully utilized in lag situations. Has there been an explanation for that?

Aside from the fact that this game is somewhat resource hungry, there are also several hardware factors that could be effecting fps.

Under Powered PS
Damaged Video Card
Too much heat
Old drivers
Too much overclocking
etc...

I had a sudden a pretty serious FPS drop for a while. Turned out that my CPU fan had become unplugged.

Thanks for the reply.

I've more than enough PSU with 1200W. The video card should be fine on all accounts, I game a good deal on this machine.

While I don't know the exact heat of the CPU, as this mobo only knows "low, medium, high, overheat", both CPU's are in low.

Drivers are up to date, and overclocking is not an option in my case, being a server board, the BIOS is not made for fiddling.

It would be hilarious if I had an unplugged CPU fan, but on startup it does a fan check (by revving them up to max). Freaked the hell out of me the first time I powered it up, sounds like a damn vacuum cleaner. Never runs hot though, I do a lot of 3d rendering on this rig (which is what it was built for).

I think this points to a CPU bottleneck. My laptop is GPU limited and I get a huge FPS boost when I drop my resolution.
