The developers should consider prorating Speed Tweak by weight class as shown below:

Speed Tweak: Increases top speed by:
  • 10.0% for Light Mechs
  • 8.5% for Medium Mechs (Cicada = 9.5%)
  • 7.0% for Heavy Mechs (Dragon & Quickdraw = 8.0%)
  • 5.5% for Assault Mechs (Awesome = 6.5%)
Note certain 'Mechs like the Cicada, Dragon, Quickdraw, and Awesome should get slightly better % than the rest of the 'Mechs in their respective weight class (list not exhaustive). These changes would effectively increase the number of light and medium 'Mechs on the battlefield, improving the metagame. Light and medium 'Mechs need to be the most nimble 'Mechs on the battlefield, whereas heavy and assaults 'Mechs need to slow down and become more sluggish. They already dominant the battlefield with their impressive armor and firepower. This change would have a positive impact to gameplay as it promotes 'Mech diversity. Thoughts/Opinions?

Why not have something different for each weight class? Such as "Agility tweak" for Mediums, "Recoil Suppresion" for Heavies, and "Damage control" for Assaults? I'll leave it up to the reader how they want to interpret these suggestions, the point is to diversify the weight classes.

I think speed tweak is ok as it is, it does its job. Lights are already getting much bigger boosts in kPh terms than assaults - times bigger. It's also quite simple. Simple and working - a combination which deserves some care; not always it's possible to design something both working, and simple.

2 cents only, of course...

Way back didn't they say they were going to make the pilot skills different for each variant of each chassis?

I'd prefer that they implement by-chassis specializations, rather than generalized skills that need to be unlocked for every chassis.

every class may get, what, %10 boost from speed tweak? but %10 of 150 is a heck of a lot more than %10 of 50. so they effectively already get a bigger boost from speed tweak.

I agree with it, if it wasn't speed tweak but all the rest of the working skills...

I dissagree with moving Speed Tweak. As Ferro pointed out. IT is 10% not, 10kph. Those going 120 KPH are going to get +12kph. those going 60kph are going to get +6kph. It evens out across the weights.

I would like to see something of a specialization tree for pilots or mechs of some sort. The ability to decide. "This mech is a brawler, and I'm going to skill it this way."

Sometimes we run mechs in odd configurations to see how they go, and I'd like the skills to reflect that too! I would love to hop into my 106.9KPH Quickdraw, and have Brawler skills on it. Damage mitigation and DPS. IT would be an interesting combo to me. There could be five+ Classes.

Scout - Information retrieval, Data transfer, Target Priority.
Skirmisher - Speed Tweaks, Flip weapons, Lucky Shots.
LRMs - Add +5 tubes to all launchers, Open Vents, Etc. etc.
Fire Support - Open Vents, Fast Fire, Body Part Targeting, Target Priority.
Brawler - One shot armor, Overtaxed Engine, Run Hot or Die. Etc. etc.
Commander - Target Priority, Mech Overwatch(viewing an allies point of view), Data Transfer, ETc. ETc.

Yeah, it's in one of the vision things they did in early 2012. Unfortunately they haven't bothered to do so even though it'd be a fairly simple thing to do and would give them more options for balancing the game.

Well, we currently have two elite skills that do nothing at all except allow you to get to master; while I think the game really needs individual pilot skill trees to replace the placeholder one we have now, at this point I would just settle for them fixing the one that's in place and maybe tweaking it like OP suggests.
