Pulse lasers are usually not worth the extra tonnage/heat over normal lasers, but I have a couple ideas that can make the pulse laser more effective and make it play differently. what do you think?

not sure about the tonnage decrease...but a mw4 pulse laser would be my favourite...

2 pulses not 3. With 0.3-0.4 sec between fist and second pulse. And they'll be ok for me.

Pulse lasers should just have their range extended by 50m. 140m for SPL, 220m for MPL and 350 for LPL. Maybe 75m but that is all.

just make them samall and short ranged PPCS. Considering their weight and heat it will be reasonable and not overpowered.

I think the medium and large pulses could use a range buff.

Since you seem unfamiliar with the game's background, later in the timeline there will be X-Pulse lasers (same range as non-pulse cousins but monstrous heat) and Variable Speed Pulse lasers (damage scales non-linearly, better range, heavier, more heat).

Someone else suggested that you could make them very similar to machine guns where they fire a pulse every .3 - .4 seconds while you are holding down the fire button. Obviously the damage and heat would have to be lowered per pulse but that would (in my opinion) be a much better solution.

Pulse lasers need a bit of a distance buff and possibly recharge slighly faster in my oppinion... its a lot of extra tonnage and heat. I still use them on my Atlas which is a brawler anyways so distance isnt really an issue but being able to shoot quicker would come in handy even if they do overheat you after a few shots.

For now, pulse lasers are not actually pulse. It's just a half-time laser. Laser have 10 ticks of damage, pulse laser have 5 - and thats all the difference. It's just a botchery.

Pulse laser should have principially different mechanics. I'll be happy if it has 1 tick with 1/5 of normal laser damage and 1/5 cooldown. High density low power fire.

Yeah I like the idea of changing it from a shorter duration laser into an actual pulse laser just like you suggest.

Or as just make it pulse 2 or 3 times and do instant dmg instead of DoT dmg.

So if we take LPL.

10.5dmg

If set at :

2 Pulses = 5.25dmg per pulse that hits.
3 Pulses = 3.5dmg per pulse that hits.

Adjust the pulsing rate / speed (time before next pulse) as needed for balancing.

Basically it would be the same as making ballistics fire in 3 or 4 round bursts to get their rated dmg.

Either way works for me. :(

Pulse lasers have stupid amount of heat. Drop the heat, they are already balanced by weight and range, especially LPL who are outmatched by PPC in nearly every way.
Saying that I would love pulse to be a DoT weapon similar to the MG but with greater dmg to compensate for having to face your target the entire time to get full dps

I'd say:
2 dmg instantly
1.7 heat
0.65 sec cooldown
