One thing that makes the MechWarrior series stand out from other games the different types of leagues that pop up around the games. The leagues range from simple ladder leagues to planetary leagues that replicate the entire Inner Sphere. My favorite leagues have been planetary roleplay leagues that make use of the mechs stock variants. My hope is that outside of whatever persistent effect each players actions has on the in-game Inner Sphere map, we can also use this game to play in the leagues that will popup around this game. I have no doubt we will be able to set up private matches between two units, but I'm a bit worried that our mech selection will be limited to whatever our in game player has. It would be difficult to try to replicate a planetary campaign if everyone has to use the same mech throughout the whole thing. But that is a minor problem that can be solve by rotating pilots of different weight classes out. My main concern is that damage and ammunition will cost the player actual c-bills to repair and resupply and that can be a drain on their bank.
My suggestion is to make private pvp matches free of cost but balance out by not rewarding skill points or salvage (if that's something you end up doing in normal matches). The option to choose from stock mech variants (or custom if that's to your taste) instead of your normal mech would be great. A really nice feature would be a way to save or even export the results of your match to make reporting to league web sites easy and verifiable. A way to set up a league in the game would be really awesome. That makes using a copy of the in-game Inner Sphere or custom map and seeing the results of battles right away a cinch.
Anyone else have ideas that could make this game compatible with external leagues?

The way this is probably going to work will eliminate leagues all together. Considering merc / house units will have planets to administer and get money from ala World of Tanks. Along with quick battle match making.

That's what I'm afraid of. In a very general sense there are two types of people who play this game: people who play it for the RP aspect and those for the sheer joy of mech destruction. I gotta check out this World of Tanks game people keep talking about.

Yeah, Seth, I'm afraid this is going to be an MMO, not just a game, something like WoW, Runes of Magic, Rift: Planes of Telara, only instead of playing a character, you'll have a pilot to level -but you never run around with them- and a 'Mech to build up. There will be multiple game modes to play in, including several deathmatch options, and a Conquest option, as well, where I would presume you'll get to play between one and several organized Lances (4 pilots per lance) in planetary fights. Leagues won't be necessary, all of the devs from the leagues will be able to hang up their editing and tracking requirements and come play, as well.

League support is one of the things that I have been thinking about myself. I truly enjoyed playing in the NBT planetary league and I am hoping at some future point we will have that ability again. I am not experienced with the F2P format so I am not sure if we will get the chance to use their game in that manner.
