The two ways that every mech has to defeat ECM is to have a TAG laser or to mount a Beagle Probe.

I have never done the TAG and streak build myself, but I have seen it. I always think a Beagle is just easier to use.

However, for the future I might have a Griffin with a single LRM-10 and a pair of streaks, so perhaps using a TAG laser instead of both a TAG and a Beagle would be best. I don't think I need three ways to defeat ECM with an ER-PPC as well.

Anybody know how well the TAG works with S-SRM's?

Too bad streaks are basically bottle rockets.

Largely because of this.

I could see it used on a Streakmando where because of single heat sinks you often cannot afford to use streaks and a mlas at the same time. Also I believe TAG users mainly use it to speed lock not defeat ECM.

Most of the ECM you'd want to use it on would be Lights, and they're kinda hard to hold a TAG on if they're any good.

However, the TAG effect lasts for a second or so after it moves off the target, so I'd say it's useful for skirmishing with lights, even if not so much on spotting for LRM's. It decreases lock-on time by 50%, which is a big bonus when trying to lock fast-moving lights for streaks.

I use TAG on my X5 instead of a BAP to save some tonnage, and I have to say it works better because you can start to lock onto a target with ECM when it is much further away. Where as BAP only negates ECM within 180M i believe. The best thing to do if you can squeeze it in, is to use both on streak heavy mechs such as stalkers, or catapaults.

If I have the energy hardpoints I always go TAG (I don't find it that hard to keep on a target, after all I'd do the same with lasers), if I don't have a spare energy hardpoint for it I go BAP... Though only with SSRMs, I've never found a good use for BAP for LRMS (despite what people say).

I run both when I go streak heavy. the BAP saves you if they get within 120m and have ECM, however if they move away from you between 180m-270m the TAG allows you to streak them as well.

The Tag gives you several advantages as a streak boat.

First: Ability to target ECM mechs at longer range.

Second: Quicker lock on time.

Third, and most important: Ability to target ECM mechs when more than one ECM mech is close by.

The thing is, if you run into multiple ECM lights, your BAP is useless unless you get help from teammates. With TAG, you can still use your SSRMs and get kills. 4 man light packs usually run more than one ECM light just so they can mess up a StreakTaro's day. As much fun as it is to kill lights with a StreakTaro, it's more fun for a 4 man light pack to make his Streaks useless with multiple ECM and kill him. A TAG nullifies that tactic.

Don't forget the Narc option; this to can negate ECM and has the advantage that you don't need to maintain a beam on your targets as is the case with TAG.

I use both on my Stalker 3F with 4 Streaks. The TAG is grouped with the Streaks, so when a light mech is running around I just hold down the fire button-- lock is near instantaneous once the mech runs through the crosshairs, and the missiles fire simultaneously. Most ECM lights run like hell when they realize I can hit them at will.
