Haven't been a big lurm fan since closed beta. Irregardless of the up and down balance issues, and no, I haven't felt they were "breaking the game" or for "skilless newbs" or anysuch, quite the opposite in fact. I've never really had the patience to use an arty build correctly. Finding the right spot, waiting till you're sure you have a firing solution, etc. My LRM boat experiences have usually ran toward firing a single volley into a crystal formation on tourmaline (or bridge on River city, etc), saying "RRRG, I HATE THIS!" and quitting. I fully acknowledge my poor experiences are not the fault of the weapon.
But, in the interest of broadening my game, (believe it or not, two years playing, an embarassing amount of money spent, 60 mechs in the 'lab... and it can actually get kinda old, go figure), I've revisited teh lurms. This time opting for an aggressive mid-range supplement weapon instead of a stand off artillary thing. Adding an occasional rack to this or that build instead of trying to boat.
What I've found is that LRM's synergize alarmingly well with assault class cannon. O_O. Okay, I said I wasn't boating, but I did build oooonnnne.
My HGN-733C, which I bought for the delectable arm mounted ac/20, can also put 40 lrms in the air at once... but I couldn't make myself take the cannon off, like it too much. So I opted to give it a go and ermagherd! Of course it's terribly ammo dependant, but with tag, bap and artemis it hurts much at long range, the autocannon and a single jump jet bring the pain at close range, and that sweet spot around 250 meters or so is delicious. People dealing with Betty's strident missile warnings and the amount of shake that comes with 40 lrms frequently aren't in a position to cope with the follow up autocannon shell.
And don't get me wrong, I fully realize it's mostly a joke build, and certainly has some uber-serious weak points,(in fact I use it to "bring the lols while pug'n", instead of saddling my team with it), but has anyone else been having fun with this mix?

Yes I am having fun with a similar load out but on an Orion V. I should note I had trouble liking Orions until I foundy load out.
I am running a STD 260 ( little slow but with speed tweak it goes about 61.) I have duel LRM 15 w/arti, two ML, and an AC 20. Very fun diverse build. I've had good and bad games with it but it's fun. Target decay and info gathering are a must for LRMs too.
That is all

My fun build HGN with this combo is 3xlrm5/ac20/erppc. Have had some really surprisingly good rounds with it..

Hmm it does indeed sound appealing, even with my hate for LRMs.

Ran a Jager -A with ac20/lrms for a while just to try something different. If you can manage to keep someone in the open and in the sweet spot (range) it's alright. Challenging drive though.

Similar discovery for me.
I bought the Golden Boy the day it came out. Immediately regretted it. It didn't seem to matter what I had in there, SRM boat, LRM boat, SSRMs, big energy..nothing worked well.
Gave up on the mech for a while, then came back and mounted a LRM20 artemis rack, SSRMs, 2ML and TAG. It transformed that mech from an embarrassing piece of {Scrap} into a viable PUG machine. I carry 3 tons of LRM and 3 tons of Streak ammo. I try not to shoot LRMs without a visual on my target and I don't fire them unless I'm within 500M. It's worked surprisingly well as I rarely do under 300 damage.

Joke Builds are often the most fun. In the long run, nobody is goiing to care if you maintained a certain KDR% in 5 years, but you will remember the fun. Think I'm gonna try something similiar this weekend, sounds like fun.

seems like a good idea to add fun to my solo q's. since that is all I do and they are 1 sided, maybe this can make it a tad but enjoyable.

lrms are quite fun in a non-boating build. I can't tell you how many kills I've snagged from a pair of LRM 5s tacked onto a mid-range brawler or a speedy light capper. People expecting to boat an LRM put themselves in a bad position. Yes, it can cause massive amounts of damage if you do it right, but that damage is very spread out. Their best damage is psychological. Their greatest use is still to simply give you a tool to continue harassing/damaging the enemy while not in a position to fire on them directly.

Battlemaster with 2xLRM15, 2xSSRM2, 2xLlaser, 2xM-laser is a lot of fun while pugging.
Not boating, but definitely throwing enough lrms to hurt someone who isn't ducking.

mine has four mlas, two lrm 10 and two srm 6 and it's a blast. Artemis is included, of course.

I run my JM6-A with 2 LRM10s with Artemis and 2 AC5s. It works surprisingly well. At 200-400 meters I can pound a mech mercilessly. I've ambushed a few mechs by flanking (it also goes just over 78KPH which isn't horrible for a heavy) then launching missiles at them and timing the AC shots so they hit right after the missiles do. When someone is at the magic range I can rock them by alternating my LRMs and my ACs so it is "AC-AC-AC-LRM-AC-AC-LRM-AC-AC-LRM"
