How Viable Are The Weapons You Use?

So while attempting to find if there's anything redeeming about SRMs as they are currently I poked around in my statistics. I ran across something interesting in terms of the relative value of weapons -

SRM6 fired 135,362, hit 69,124, damage 150,704.
SRM4 fired 28,930, hit 14,377, damage 28,086.

Now you can wiggle around with a 50% hit percentage and what that equates to with missiles but here's the thing -

Of the times I hit with SRM6s I'm only doing an average of 2.18 points of damage every time I fire an SRM6 AND HIT. Of the times I fire an SRM6 including misses I'm only doing an average of 1.11 points of damage every time I fire an SRM6. An SRM4 is even worse - this metric is possibly skewed by my use of SRM6s on my Atlas prior to the identification and removal of the extra SRM splash damage which may artificially inflate the value of my SRM6 hits.

Given that my SRM4 average for *hits* is actually less than 2.0 it can't be per-missile. It has to be per-firing of an SRM pack. Even beyond that firing 135,362 times and only doing 150,704 damage is terrible.

Compare that to, for example, medium lasers.

Medium Lasers fired 43,559 times, hit 37,425 times, damage 111,764.

That's 2.98 average on hits and 2.59 damage per trigger pull, hit or miss, overall.

This means that a 1 ton laser is definitively superior than an 3 ton SRM 6, 4 tons with Artemis (which I almost universally use).

Compare this to something projectile like AC20.

AC/20 fired 21,025, hit 13,642, damage 273,501.

That's over 20 points per hit on AVERAGE (including hits at range after damage drop off and ammo explosion damage) and 13 points per pull of the trigger on average. Almost 7 times as valuable as SRMs.

Interestingly though it's got about the same range as MLs but weighs 14 times as much (not even including ammo). It only does 7 to 10 times the damage however. Close, but not an even upsell.

PPCs fired 3,911, hit 2,277, damage 21,769.

That's 9.57 per hit average and 5.57 per trigger pull.

Take a look at this for yourselves. While some weapons are obviously going to be superior (AC20, etc) it really shines a spotlight on how absolutely worthless SRMs are for the tonnage for example. Streaks are literally the only missile weapon that really pulls its weight.

Worth considering. I found it enlightening at least. Personal opinion and anecdotal situations aside, statistically what's your best weapons?

I was looking at damage per match.

So my top 5 based on that (with at least 120 matches) are:
  • AC/5 - 168.64 / Accuracy 54.75% / 5.22 DMGpH (299 matches, many in my Ilya 3x)
  • SRM 6 - 161.53 / Accuracy 56.63% / 2.20 DMGpH (462 matches, most in a DDC or CN9-A)
  • LPL - 153.32 / Accuracy 88.67% / 6.49 DMGpH (281 matches, many in my Flame and a few other mechs)
  • Gauss - 151.32 / Accuracy 61.85% / 15.34 DMGpH (124 matches, various mechs)
  • AC/20 - 149.80 / Accuracy 68.70% / 20.01 DMGpH (406 matches, DDC, Hunchbacks, Flame and Shadowhawks)
Honorable mention goes to AC/2, AC/10, LB 10-X AC, and LLs since I average ~140.00 damage with them.

And one fun thing I saw was with Machine Guns.
I've used them in 355 matches, fired them 323929 times, hit 175751, with an accuracy of 54.26%, damage per hit 0.10, and a damage per match of 50.37! :o

Damage per match....

{Scrap}! You know that's a pretty critical piece. If I look at damage per match SRMs are not nearly so bad.... about 150/match. That's respectable.

Then again it sounds like both you and I used SRMs on Atlases and Cents before they got the fix for splash damage so I'm not sure how reliable that is now but still.

For me damage per match would be, for my top 5:

LRM15 242.30

AC2 203.97

AC20 196.05

UAC5 153.96

with SRM6 at a healthy 148.86.

HOWEVER. After the SRM 'nerf' (removing splash damage and putting it back to around 2/missile) I started using SRM4s for more ammo and faster ROF and my damage/round with SRM4s is only 51.61 - about like your MGs. Now I'm dubious again.

I'm pretty sure the stats count each missile separately. When you fire a SRM6 you spend 6 points of ammo. Therefore you have shot 6 times. That's different than a LBX10 where you spend 1 point of ammo that is divided into 10 projectiles.


My stats look like this:

SRM 4 98 8,116 3,113 38.36% 09:19:19 6,611 => 2,12 damage per hit , 67 damage per match
SRM 6 134 15,128 6,453 42.66% 11:23:14 14,328 => 2,22 damage per hit, 107 damage per match

My stats might be off because I stopped using SRM almost entirely after the splash damage / damage nerf.

MACHINE GUN 75 72,109 37,799 52.42% 06:36:06 4,884 = 0,13 damage per hit 65 damage per match
MEDIUM LASER 556 24,896 21,908 88.00% 2 days 05:12:49 63,976 = 2,9 damage per hit 115 damage per match

I would say that for me, SRM4s are on par with Machine guns and SRM6 are slightly inferior to medium lasers.
And since both machine guns and medium lasers weigh less, the SRMs are in my opinion obsolete. Just take heavy ballistics and add as much medium lasers as possible.

PS:
AC/20 290 6,230 3,721 59.73% 1 day 03:24:12 74,292 => 256 damage per match
PPC 734 32,798 18,550 56.56% 3 days 01:57:49 181,601 => 247 damage per match

Now you know which weapons to fear...

AC/2 - 361 DMG Per Match is by far my most effective weapon.

Machine Gun - 35 DMG Per Match is by far my least effective weapon.

AC/20, Gauss, UAC/5, Large Laser, Large Pulse Laser, Medium Laser, Medium Pulse Laser, SRM6 are all around 150-200 DMG per match.

Gauss Rifle is the least effective weapon I've used...I can't hit an Atlas's butt at 90 meters with the thing, and couldn't even before the delay was put on it. >.>;;;

AC-20 on the other hand...

PPC: /hit: 9.27 /match: 70 acc: 35%
LL: /hit: 7.5 /match: 140 acc: 93%
LPL: /hit: 8.1 /match: 150 acc: 93%
ML: /hit: 3.7 /match: 320 acc: 97%
MPL: /hit: 4.2 /match: 115 acc: 88%


All these are from when I was exclusively running a founder's Jenner, after I'd already mastered each variant.
