FLE-15 is possible, with 5 energy and 2 ballistic hard points.
FLE-4 is also possible, with 4 energy hard points + MASC
Otherwise, the 4 and 17 are no different....

I would rather drop without a mech in one of those nanosuits (it's the cryengine after all

JJs on a 20 ton (or even 15 ton) mech has potential. Just not with the current speed cap.

~ 10% do not pilot meds or lights
~ 40% do not pilot lights
~ 25% actually use the Locust seriously .... mhh cannot believe this ....

Still I managed to get 300 damage once with a LCT-1V 4xMG 1xMPL. A dedicated 20 ton pilot can contribute, it takes tons of skill and willingness to do bold (even crazy) maneuvers. You get points mainly by spotting for LRMS and getting assists. I did technically kill a fresh Battlemaster in 2 minutes because he insta-killed me with a 7xppc alpha (derp) and melted while in shutdown (that's a 65 ton difference!).

Nice anecdote about thae Battlemaster.
My best Locust move was to lure an Assault mech into the Out of Bounds Area

And as you I feel like: Now that I bought them I will master them. But still I did not vote 20t as I will surely never use a Locust out of love.

Give it another month and the Locusts will be mostly gone until tonnage limits come. That's why I voted 25 (love my TDK and 2D COMs)
As some have at least implied above, I can't even see why PGI would bother releasing the Flea now that we've seen what junk the Locust is

It's really fun watching the QQ when the last one standing is a Locust.

TBH, I've not seen that happen.
Virtually every single match I look for LCV on the match screen, it is almost always followed with "DEAD" next to the mech.

I've been last man standing with my 3M and I cap won against an entire enemy team in my 1V just an hour ago. So it does happen, of course those that think it should not... Well they QQ in droves.

I know I still will, well at least the non mg variants.
Thanks to lack of cap/scout rewards locust grinding is slow (but <3 to the new UAV) so I haven't been driving just locusts in the last few weeks as I have been doing the following less painful grinds
grinding a c4 cat to basics
mastering a k2 cat
mastering a 1n dragon
elite/mastering c9D and wang cents
I have gotten the 3m and 3s locusts to speed tweak and I am having fun with them, just like the deaths knell they are a hell of a crazy suicidal ride and perfect platforms for sneaking in the strike and UAV modules.
Sure they are very pilot skill and map dependent (shudders at those open alpine plains in a locust) the certainly are not the worst mechs to have on a team. Again the pilot skill and even mech tree progression are important variables but I would rather see a locust (not in numbers T_T ) than a 5v spider or a 3c cicada on my team.
Until we see ballistics between the MG and AC2 the 5v, 3c and 1v are still in my eyes worse than the 3m and 3s locusts.

I can vouch for that myself. funny thing, i was in a match on my own and it was all down to me and the locust. The other team had 2 locusts with the rest of the team dead, we both finished off them then my locust wing died leaving me and mah jenner all alone. Oh well

I have the Phoenix Locust pack, I have only dropped in a Locust once, and got vaporized without even firing a single shot, let alone doing damage

The other mechs I drive a lot are a Cat K2 with a pair of gauss rifles, a Hunchback (P?) the one with like 8 or 9 ml's, and then my Atlas DC which I think is still stock other than adding ecm and artemis.
Main goal for now is mastering Jenners, then I'll pick another to focus on. I think I lean toward the Atlas next for a totally different play style, but I have also thought it would be fun to specialize in lights. I love the craziness of running around like an ***** dodging nukes and trying to back-shoot big mechs. I change my mind all the time but I AM sure I love Jenners.
