So I've been getting this error for the last few weeks when launching the client. Searched the forum, tried all the fixes (reinstalling, resetting IE options, disabling antivirus/firewall) and got no results. None of the topics posted to the forum seem to have been resolved in a documented manner. Is there anything I'm missing?

I'm also finding some other programs (like Amazon Cloud Player) are also having remote connection issues. Any thoughts?

Exactly the same issue for me, I have also tried reinstalling, resetting IE, and disabling firewall/AV. The patch logo hangs for about 30secs then pops up with the Connection Error - There was an error connecting: Unable to connect to remote server.

Haven’t been able to play in weeks and close to giving up on MWO.

You may be having the same problem a few others had after last patch.

The solution for them was to change the DNS server address used by their network connection to 8.8.8.8 (provided by Google). You can Google how to do it. :)

The problem, cause and solution is also discussed in the following thread.

The problem resolved itself for me, a few days later it started connecting again and I have been able to connect every time since.

Just in case anyone is having "cannot connect to server" error and game disables modem and internet after UI2.0 this is what worked for us: in router settings set udp (21000-30000)and tcp (45461-45464), game and pc played on as routers top priority for bandwidth in router so simple. wish I would have tried this before system restore and million other things I did never would've thought anything would have the ability to completely kill the internet on modem like that did this even when directly plugged into modem and bypassed router to, so something in router stuck in windows or modem that caused this to happen even when bypassing router. We have a Linksys ea6400 router.

I'm in Aussie, with Bigpond and recently the cannot connect error at startup began happening. This was solved (like others) by changing the DNS server on my Belkin Router to the google one (8.8.8.8) as Shamous13 mentioned. Whatever happened (I suppose Bigpond changed its DNS server?) it also affected my Ipad updates though most other things still worked OK, but the different DNS server fixed everything.

Good luck

It looks like I am having the same or similar issue. I was able to play just fine on my desktop, then the game started giving me the connection error pictured above. I am still able to connect on my laptop, and got on the testing ground. I've submitted a ticket, but no word yet. The issue with the desktop but not the laptop makes me wonder where the problem really is. I'll try the DNS change suggested above and see if that helps or not.

No dice. Tried flushing DNS, tried using the google DNS server address, but am still getting the error. Why would my laptop work, but not the desktop?

Go to your start menu and follow this trail:
Start -> Control Panel -> Internet Options -> Advanced Tab -> Click Reset -> Click Reset again
I got that from Support. I tried it, and now I'm back up and running on my desktop. Good thing, too. My laptop can run the game, but it's just not the same thing.

The one above is what worked for me. Reset, reset and then restart.
