Yep. It's very much expected for lighter mech to be an easy kill for much heaevier mech, if the lighter one does not move out of harm's way. Just yesterday, i was doing a battle for double exp in one heavily armed highlander - 2xSRM6, 1xSRM4, 2xUAC5, ML and LL; and at some point, a shadowhawk - a medium mech, - popped out right in front of me, some ~100 meters, and stopped. Naturally, i fired all my weapons at it seeing it stopping, and everything landed. No wonder poor Shadowhawk just fell apart, pieces flying out and lots of smoke - 66 points of damage right in the face in just a second.
Several days ago, i was doing another battle, also for double exp, in one of my locusts. It was crimson strait. I had 3 encounters where i had more than 4 enemies being less than 300 meters from me at some point - and most of them firing at me. Most of my armor went red after this, but no cored parts. I was 2nd-last to die during this battle (was quite even match, but my team lost it in the end), did some spotting, did some damage with ERLL i had.
It's risky, true, sometimes that AC20 just flies in and cripples one's leg; but man, even in locust with its relatively easily hit legs, if the pilot runs some 150+ kPh, doesn't stop, doesn't get into point-blank range (except if from behind and when other friendlies make the enemy busy), and keeps turning all the time in an irregular pattern, - LOTS of enemy fire can be dodged. Should i be in above mentioned highlander, i doubt i'd survive even 1st of these 3 encounters (although in a highlander i wouldn't go that far alone, of couse). Amount of enemy fire wihch is needed to down a dodgy light pilot is definitely much more than amount of enemy fire needed to down a dodgy assault.
