Should I bother buying Kintaros now that I have ShadowHawks?

Both are 55 ton Mechs. Both have about the same engine sizes. Both have 370 armor.

But the SHK has Jump Jets.

So: what's the reason to buy a Kintaro...?

Slightly smaller I think, otherwise, none.

Unless you absolutely need an extra missile hard point, or need all of your launchers to take at least 2 crits (the head mounted missile point on the SHDs is rather limited), there pretty much isn't one.

Once I mastered my Shadowhawk I realized I had around 30 other mechs that I no longer need

Well do you ever fancy yourself running lots of missiles? Most likely both LRMs and SRMs will be improved at some point. The Kintaro flat out has better hardpoint placement and tube count.

I have one kintaro and all the shadowhalks, there's a few reasons that separate them. While shadowhawk has ballistics, they are right in your face, just that made me not pilot that mech. I've also heard people complain it can be blinding on some maps if using multiple ACs.

Other than that kintaro can load up 5 streaks, I think the hero can do 6.

Shadowhawks eat Kintaroes. They have JJs, they have ballistics, they are slimmer and with better hitboxes and can go XL with ease.

Too sad it's dimensions and hitboxes what makes a good mech in this game, even with the fixed ones, kintaroes stand no chance. They'd be perfect SRM boats, but given the dull tube-like trajectory, lack of fix for splash damage and heat penalty for more than 3 SRM6s.. oh well SHDs are better.

No jumpjets, no ballistic the kintaro loses this fight easily.

However if you are looking to make a missile boat well then Trebuchet is the way to go.

Kintaro is ok but not great.

if over-streaked over-engined Light Hunters are your cup of tea, go waste a Kintaro for it. If you wan't a mech that will do everything else BETTER, stick to the ShadowHawk. When you already have a Porsche 911 turbo, you don't waste time driving a Camaro.

The real shame of this is that we are going to have the wolverine and the griffin beating down the Kintaro's door as well which will probably seal it into a box and ship it off to the same warehouse as the Ark of the Covenant.

Jumpers versus non jumpers is a big deal, especially when you can't go faster with that nonjumper.

and yet people scoffed when I said it really made no sense to produce the Robo-Chimp. ShadowHawk is already the first nail in the coffin. Griffin and Wolverine will be the last ones.

And soon aside from a very few diehards you will see no Kints at all. Same reason I say the Wolfhound is a waste. People will run to initially, and then when it's actual in game inadequacies compared to the competition come out, it will dwindle and die too.

I'm quite partial to Light hunting. But SHK-2D2 does that role just as well as the Kintaro, doesn't it?

I didn't buy the Saber package because I couldn't conceive of any need for a further two Mediums without JumpJets and without any hardpoints in the left arm.

depends on style. The KNT can carry 5 SSRM and 2 larges pretty easy. The Shad can do similar, but IMO ignoring the AC is silly on a SHD. I find Light Hunting a good recipe for disaster, as good lights will simply draw you off, ambush and wolfpack you. No amount of streaks matter then. The SHAD though, with a slightly smaller engine, and 4 SSRM, 2 Mediums and either a UAC or LBX is a great Light Defender, staying with the unit and beating the Lights off as they come.

I agree, thought it's a relatively fine line between the two, all things considered.

I am a fan of the robo-chimp and i love fluff and and I love running mechs that I enjoy from a fluff standpoint.

What I hate is reality crashing through my door forcing me to agree that the Kintaro at this point is just a waste. If it had ECM, well then sure but that's a big no go.

Until SRM's get fixed this is strictly a "Shiggles" mech.

I think each occupies a different role.

An up-engined Kintaro, XL 340 or XL 360 is best used to hunt lights. Slap on BAP and 3 or 4 SSRM2's plus the random ML and you have the single best light hunter in the game.

( my Golden Boy with a STD engine and 5 SSRM's has huge battlefield staying power and still runs 90 KPH)

The Shadow Hawk is better suited to act as fire support with the odd AC5 here or dual AC2 there plus some SRM's. The mobility of the Shadow Hawk gives it an overall edge, but if you prefer to hunt lights, and/or take on specific roles, the Kintaro is the better mech.

It is my most satisfying mech. I love nothing more than running at 116kph and killing Locust, Jenners, Commandos, and ESPECIALLY... Spiders with EMC that think their invincible.

BAP and 4 SSRM's plus 116 KPH means a Spider feast.

Each and every Spider I have faced runs off, only to die because they can't pull away fast enough to avoid 'deem dam Streaks....

A Spider feast until the Spider jumps away. Now when using 2D2 Shadowhawk you can follow and really kill it. It's easy to run away a Kintaro if you have jumpjets.

except the SHD-2D2 can mount 4 SSRM, the odd medium laser (or two) and such. And run 116. And jump.

Check
and
Mate.

Aside from dedicated "Light Hunters" being a waste of tonnage and a generally dumb idea in the first place, except when scraping the dregs of ELO hell where the SPD pilots are too dumb to work together, because when they team up, they will kill the Kintaro pretty much every single time.

2 ECM Mechs and your precious BAP is useless.

Which is why the smarter pilots don't max out engines, actually mount solid backup weapons like oh, UACs and LBXs, and stick with their group and kill the Lights as they come, by not letting the little boogers dictate anything.

If you already have the Shadowhawks, I would say don't bother with the Kintaro. While I would argue the Kintaro is a slightly better light hunter, the Shadowhawk is a more well rounded mech. You can essentially do any sort of build with one variant or the other.

However, it's important to keep in mind, that when people talk about which mech is better, you're going to see a lot of hyperbole. They're both very good mechs and you can do well in almost anything. What is important is finding a mech you enjoy playing and spending enough time in it to get good.

Fool.

One TAG and your precious ECM is useless. I run a TAG on my StreakTaro. ECM light packs do not effect me. Also, I don't need JJ, because I'm not going to be stupid enough to follow a light back to the rest of his team. Stay with my group and fend off lights first, brawl second. That's the name of the game.

Also, while SSRMs wont kill anything fast, they do have great DPS. I have had a few PUG games where the StreakTaro is the difference between losing and winning. It can strip armor relatively quickly. They also seem to tank damage well, as good as a Shad in that regard.

As for "waste of tonnage", I have seen a few StreakTaros running in 12 man team practice drops. I don't believe they will go away even if they are situational, which is saying something considering that most other mechs aren't viable at all in 12 man competition drops.
