Dear Devs,

Please make the Hero Spider be a true recon mech.

Head: 1E
Left Arm: 1E
Right Arm: 1M (1tube)
ECM
8 Jumpjets

This arrangement allows for the Hero Spider to have both TAG and NARC equipment supplemented by ECM for dedicated support, scouting and spotting duties. Its armaments, even if fully geared towards offensive means, would not be greater than the other spiders.

Visually distinctive traits: black & red camo (google 'Black Widow' spider for pattern), longer, more angular looking 'winglets' in the back.

Call it.. the 'Black Widow' Hero.

Not a bad idea, but I think calling a support mech a Black Widow wouldn't do enough justice for the name. For a Black Widow spider I'd recommend having the narc tube in the head, then 4 energy (1 LA, 1 RA, 2 CT). But with that many weapon hardpoints its should only have max of 4 jump jets and only 2 modules to start.

All Spiders are Hero Mechs due to their Hitboxes

1 tube missile launcher? I wonder if I could fit an lrm 20 in there and use it like a Gatling gun! Daka daka daka!

But in all seriousness I would like to see a hero spider. In fact I wonder if that's what they meant by 'controversial' light mech in the latest NGNG pod cast? Probably not as they made it sound like a whole new mech, like javelin or panther, not just a hero mech.

1. There's no need to have yet another ECM Spider.

2. Missile hardpoint on a Spider? Negative.

Nice post and all, but no. That 'Mech won't happen.

This Hero spider is purposely under-gunned for the advantages it gets.

The head energy is for the TAG.
The arm energy is for a large or ER laser.
The arm missile is for NARC
The ECM is to allow this mech to sneak and spot/tag/observe.

Considering the spider has a serious weight limitation it will not be loading SRM or LRM weaponry with enough ammo to make a dent. A single SSRM is not much of a threat but it is a decent damage add-on..for as long as it has ammo.

Even if you strip the Black Widow to make it full combat the only combo you get that is functional is 2 medium pulsers and an SSRM. That is not, in any way, deliver more damage than the 5D's existing 3 energy weapon slots.

How about the Black Widow has this layout.

Head: 1E - M-laser, or Tag for recon
Center Torso: 1E- M-laser or S-laser
Left Arm: 1 Ballistic - MG if weight is down low maby a ac/2
Right Arm: 1 Missle- Srm2,4,SSrm2, or Narc is good for Recon
Endo
FF Armor
XL Engine
Ams
Ecm
dbl heatsinks
8 JJ

Black Widows should pack a punch cause it's venom does on real ones. So you need the fp to represent it's venom.

Throw the head laser and the missile port (1 tube) in the CT, and then you'd have a spider.

The problem is there is no "ROLE" for Recon mechs.

There are only fast mechs that carry lots of weapons.

I agree with the concept of using the Spider as a dedicated Recon / Scout unit.
I currently do exactly this; the difference is in my build philosophy. For me the Recon Spider is totally defensive; hers a snapshot of my basic config:

1. Endo Steel chassis.
2. Ferro Fibres Armour.
3. Beagle Active.
4. 4 x Zoom Module.
5. 2 x Jump Jets.
6. AMS + CASE + 1000 Rounds (Don't like or believe in ECM, its underhand)
7. TAG
8. Artillery Strike Module (For engaging opportune targets)

You can't put the NARC launcher in the head unless you have Clan Tech. At best, you would put it in the CT (like the Quickdraw-5K). 2 Slots for the IS NARC launcher. 1 Slot for the Clan NARC launcher.

TBH, this idea doesn't seem that interesting, especially given the lack of good role warfare. The 5D is the standard bearer of recon at this point in time.

No, putting the missile in the CT destroys the versatility of the hardpoint.

No, using 1 ballistic hardpoint makes no sense since 1 machine gun requires 1 ton of ammo and that does zero effective damage. AC2 in a spider is laughable as you cant carry ammo to make it worth anything.

The NARC is what makes the black widow better at recon/spotting than the 5D.

Recon? Tag? Narc? Ecm hero?

Sorry but wouldn't buy, in the current state of gameplay I'd rather take a locust.

NARC is just not that useful. TAG has been more useful due to stacking bonuses. Unless NARC is reworked a bit, there's no hope for this to succeed.

There is a reason why the Raven-3L has an SSRM2 stuck in the NARC tube slot (or any NARC tube slot). It's just ineffective to use that slot as is.
