So I know Artemis is a no brainer for a dedicated LRM boat, but for my Atlas with 2xLRM15 it's going to cost me the slots and tonnage for 360 additional missiles. The Atlas is super slow, so I'd say 60-70% of the time I'm relying on teammates and firing indirectly, and in those cases Artemis does nothing. Direct fire is also risky since when enemies see you they're aiming for that RT (where my gauss is) so I'm usually behind cover.
Any thoughts? My build is very close to the stock RS Champion build (4xML 1xGauss 2xLRM15). With Artemis I can carry 900 LRMs and without I can carry 1260. With 900 I frequently run out of missiles during games.

I've used LRMs on a number of mechs that were not boating them (in fact I hate boating them) and I've gone with and without Artemis.
It all comes down to how much tonnage you want to invest in your missile systems.
For example on my "Mad Dog" (C1 with a mix of missiles and lasers, built for speed), after a number of matches I switched from dual LRM 10s to 15s with Artemis and changed my lasers from 2 LL and 2 ML to just 4 ML because I found I was doing more damage and engaging more targets with the LRMs. On the other hand; on one of my shadowhawks, which carries an LRM 10, 5, MLs and an AC10 I don't use Artemis because I use all my weapon groups fairly equally.
I suggest you run your mech without Artemis for a dozen or so matches and see how much you use your LRMs and how you use them and then decide. If it feels like you are doing most of your work with them, then by all means use Artemis to frontload more damage on to them.
Right, which is why I recommend people try it without before they decide, otherwise it's a major hit in the wallet.
Speaking of non-boating LRM carriers, in this video here I'm using the shadow hawk I mentioned, and Orion carrying LRMs but not arti and another Orion carrying SRMs without arti. In the case of the Orion with LRMs I have since switched to using arti because I found that I was, for the most part, using them with LOS (as was my intention with the build, but I wanted to test it first), while with the SRM carrier I haven't adopted atri because I mostly use the SRMs in close quarters and do most of my work with the ACs and lasers.
@zztophat I have tried it for quite some time without. It does OK. I just put on Artemis now. I dropped a DHS so I net lose just a ton of ammo now.
@Spheroid Gauss charge time was reduced in December I believe so it's a little better than before. I didn't want a short range build. I have my D and DDC for that. I want an RS, so to use the 1 ballistic hardpoint effectively, it's going to be either an AC10 or Gauss (and I didn't like the AC10 because of the slower projectile speed).

But if you aren't following the meta exactly, what's the point of playing?!
Artemis only works if you have line of sight.
If you are using the LRM as supplementary weapon without line of sight, you are wasting 2 crit and 2 ton.
They are more suited for fast LRMboat, SRMbrawler and SSRMhunter.
