I keep thinking about these two mechs as another heavy I would like to own. For me the draw is being able to rig them up as warhammers with a PPC in each arm, a few backup lasers, and an SRM launcher.

Statistically they're nearly identical. In the 3039 TRO book the stats are actually only different in the fact the Grasshopper has 1 more ton of armor because the LRM-5 weighs less than an SRM-6.

I like both, but the Guillotine is better to me as it has the missile launcher in the CT and not in the head where you are very limited on what weapons you can mount with the Grasshopper. However, the Grasshopper is arguably more iconic, being one of the original 3025 designs.

I admit, the 2750 TRO artwork was pretty bad. It was not the worst they've done, but it wasn't great.

However, if you get a good artist, everything changes. MWO probaby has the best for artists we know of, but a guy named ThunderGod Xarbala made a really excellent re-design of the Guillotine.

Shortpainter made a great concept art for the Grasshopper.

Which one do you think is better?

They both can zombie with the CT mounted weapon. For MWO purposes, I think the GHR has a slight edge, in that you can easily stuff a large laser into the CT (and get some sweet range with an ER version), plus possibly a token missile launcher in the head. The Guillotine can zombie with the CT missile launcher, but late in a match it will likely be out of ammo, or be limited to the range of the missiles.

I give the advantage to the Grasshopper.

Guillotine looks better, so it wins.

Yeah, I'm shallow.

I've always been a bigger fan of the Grasshopper. The Guillotine is a great mech, of course, but the LRM ammo on the Grasshopper seems to last longer and supplements the Large Laser well. In MW:O a single LRM-5 is basically pointless, but I still love the design and favored it in tabletop for long campaigns where we wouldn't be allowed reloads between games... which is also why I love the Crab, machine guns, and the Wasp WSP-1D.

Guillotine, because those shoulders. Grasshopper just looks ugly with that LRM5 stuffed in the side of its head.

Man, Grasshopper looks badass! But I think they both could be in the game if I'd be asked :)

On paper without customizing, hands down the Grasshopper. Customized... Its a toss up.

FYI Both look great!

I would say the Grasshopper since it's a better zombie and it appears to have a more slender profile.

In TT these were amongst my favorite mechs for their relative speed, jumping, and zombietude. If we had melee I would say 'Hopper as I used to make a killing (literally) hopping behind fat mechs and punching the {Scrap} out of their backs then hopping away.

In MWO the Guillotine's base configurations are probably more effective, but the Hopper still packs a decent punch. I imagine with endless custimization they will just both become PPC/LLAS and SRM boats, so its a wash for MWO.

Sadly

Hopper has more armor, so it is my pick. I'm not a huge fan of the J, but I LOVE the N hopper with the PPC.
