So I'm looking for some advice on how to go about upgrading my PC to work with MWO, I'm trying to research it myself but having trouble on which direction to go simply due to lack of experience with doing it on my own. If you have some time, any suggestions would be very much appreciated!

Obviously, here's the specs i need to hit:

MechWarrior Online Minimum System Spec:
CPU: Core 2 Duo E6750 2.66GHz; Athlon II X2 245e
GPU: GeForce 8800GT; Radeon HD 5600/5700
RAM: 4 GB

MechWarrior Online Recommended System Spec:
CPU: Core i3-2500; AMD Athlon II X4 650
GPU: GeForce GTX 285; Radeon HD 5830
RAM: 8 GB

Current Laptop Spec:
CPU: Genuine Intel® CPU U7300 @ 1.30GHz (does not meet minimum)
GPU: GeForce GT 335M
RAM: 4 GB
Current Desktop Spec:
CPU: Intel Core 2 duo E6550 @ 2.33GHz (close, but does not quite meet minimum)
GPU: ATI Radeon HD 3600 (does not meet min sys req.)
RAM: 2 GB (does not meet min sys req.)

Current plan;
I can’t do much about the laptop as it’s the CPU which is the issue, it may run the game, may not. If it does I might be ok and not need to worry about this, any idea of it will?

The desktop, I can upgrade the RAM, I purchased more RAM 4GB, Its DDR2 because my ASUS P5K SE Motherboard can’t use DDR3.

I could then buy a new video card; I found these which would both work with my current motherboard;
EVGA HD SuperClocked 012-P3-1573-RX GeForce GTX 570 (Fermi) 1280MB 320-bit GDDR5 (around $220 referb)

(Notes; my current motherboard cannot utilize 2GB, but if this would be recommend spec and more useful if I have to upgrade motherboard)

Sapphire Radeon HD 5770 1 GB DDR5 (around $70.00 used)

(Notes; this is minimum spec, but it’s cheap)

I’m trying to stay away from upgrading my motherboard if I can because I do not know what else it would require me to upgrade as a result and I’m trying to keep this fairly affordable. I know getting a new processor is going to be too much right now.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks.

Before giving you advice on new GPU's, it would be best to know your power supply.

What's the power supply like on your desktop? Either way, the GTX 570 would be bottleknecked to hell and back by that system, so only look at it as an option if you intend to completely upgrade in the next year or so. You could also refer to this thread http://mwomercs.com/...-for-mwo-1080p/

Looking over it again, I'd just forget it unless you plan on doing a nearly complete overhaul. Russ said the CPU is actually more important then the GPU for MWO, with the CPU being below min spec, not sure how good of an experience you'd have even with a beefy vid card and ram upgrade.

That makes me very sad.

Just buy a used Q6600 for around $100 and you'll be fine CPU wise. Video card wise, don't go over board or you will start seeing a bottleneck with the Q6600. A HD7770 and used Q6600 or better will do wonders and not break the bank(looking at around $200-250 total)

Decentish price for a Q8300 if you want to get a new processor...evidently MWO shows much love to the quad core processors. Newegg doesn't seem to carry any 775 socket processors right now,

Nexx... I dont know why you havent simply asked your fellow tech savy HJs on irc who are there 24/7 But you would be better off buying a new PC than trying to upgrade all that old junk. I recommend HP budget computers ordered online from the HP home as they are actually pretty decent specs for the price, but, keep your 580 powersupply, and transfer it to a new PC, as most PC companies like HP put only a 300 watt PSU on their puters... Also, assuming your 580 power supply has outstanding heat sinks.

I totally did not even think of that, I will have to jump on.

My machine is a pretty sweet rig, just has some outdated components, I've got a nice big case, its a APEVIA X-JUPITERG-MG (Holds Motherboard size: 12" x 13), with all the glowy fans and cables.

580W Hush power supply
2 x DVD-RW
Promise Ultra 133 TX2 - storage controller - ATA-133 – PCI
2 x 500gb HD - SeaGATE
2 x Vantec Hot swappable drive bays (1x Serial ATA)

At this point using the help from the links provided by everyone, (THANK YOU)!! I believe that I may be looking at getting these upgrades, looks like about a $580 to $650 investment. Its much more than I planned, but I REALLY want this game... I may have to wait a while for the Razor controller...

That motherboard is for AMD processors. You can't use a Intel processor with it. Get this board instead- http://www.newegg.co...N82E16813157279

Get the 2500k. It's all the processor you'll need for quite some time. This coming from a 2600k owner/user
