The title is self explanatory. I'm curious what kind of maps other players are hoping for.

I'll start: I'd like to have an arena map, something whose style resembles Mad Moxxi's Underdome. An symmetric map with lots of bells and whistles and pure map-designing goodness.

(Isn't there a lore-canon planet specifically for BattleMech arenas somewhere?)

Also I'd like to have a map half-covered with deep-water, enough to submerge everything including Atlas. Low visibility, no radar detection on both sides when submerged, all weapons other than lasers are disabled. Bonus point for ice-capped water surface. That would be super cool.

EDIT: Looks like this should be moved to Feature Suggestions. Sorry mods.

I want a map that is set in a gigantic wishing well. The basic layout would be roughly circular, with levels on top of one another (and the ability to fire across the inside of the well).

+10 nerd points if they sneak in a "Ringu" reference somewhere.

Would there be gigantic mech-crushing coins dropping down, as well as a massive bucket on a rope in the middle? If so, it's got my vote.

Any of the maps from Solaris VII.

Ishiyama, in particular, would be real interesting. It's a cave network that's maze-like.

It'd be like the Rats map in Counterstrike, or the similar one in Duke Nukem, yeah.

Also, people could jump jet to the bucket (with lulziness should someone crit out one of their jump jets, or if they should miscalculate and miss the jump). At which point they could (due to the bucket being old and uneven) stand on certain points and snipe over the bucket while cooling their heels in some water).

ALSO, if you fall over any edge, you get a screaming sound just like in the original De_Vertigo.

HOW COME I CAN'T FIND A WAV OR VIDEO OF THAT SCREAM? SOMEONE PLEASE LINK ME!

A flat, rolling sands desert map.

I'd like something a little different, and maybe less forgiving tactically. Maybe 2-3 rolling dunes in a wind-storm environment. Where no mech could hide entirely and heat waves make distant visuals mirage-like.

Add in unforgiving random sand storms. No visual mode will help with this. Siesmic would be handy here though.

- a foggy swamp map
- full urban map, only streets and buildings (maybe a park), could have multiple "floors" to fight on (think Nar Shaddaa, the vertical city, but less extreme of course)
- city on a steep hill, skyscrapers on the foot, rich condos higher up, so that you can go high route and have less cover but be able to snipe or low route with good cover but close combat
- lush, rolling grasslands

Then it gotta be close to a planet or a sun, otherwise how could one fall off in space?

On second thought, maybe the ship's surface has artificial gravity, and if you walk off, you either drift away or just hang in there and wait to be picked apart....

I want a Japanese style fortr4ess with a cherry blossom forest in one place with the blossoms blowing in the air, and Japanese war drums playing

The main deal of course would be that it's a fortress attck with multiple paths into the fortress (holes blown into walls, tunnels, etc.)

I would be happy if any future game modes came with their own maps that were designed just for that mode.

Flooded Canyon Night: Thunderstorm with torrential rain and lightning flashes in the sky. All the lower areas including caps are flooded and submerged partially in water (about as deep as the water in Colony).

Jungle Map: Foliage needs to be dense and tall.

Metropolis: Large urban environment with skyscrapers (like 100-floor buildings or larger, not these 10-story apartment complexes we have now), multi-level platforms, placed in an area with wide streets for main combat areas and close-quarters areas for lights and mediums to sneak around in....and even tighter quarters for the UrbanMech (and only the UrbanMech) to skulk around.

Dune Sea: A rolling wasteland of sand with tall dunes that provide a network of low-ground to sneak around and peaks to use for spotting. Perhaps a hidden network of sandstone caves beneath the dunes to provide lights and mediums areas to sneak around in.

Old star league factory or newly discoverd cache of starleague tech near a mountainside facility.

Brian Badlands.

The melted hill of the remains of a castle brian orbitally nuked during the early succesion wars sit as a devestated monument to the vain destruction of war. The partially glassed remains of the surrounding cratered plains still has the fallen petrified remains of the high silica trees native to this once livable world. Forgotten about over the centuries this planet has beeen redicoverd by a trade mission that had a jump malfunction. And now centuries later war has returned to this lost place.

Make sure you take your rad pills boys. The levels are low now, but they are still there. Seems there is a large tunnel network under this brian. And we have some of the entrances open. But Our ships comsat in orbit has detected a dropship inbound. and they are not answering hails. Get ready for action!

Sounds like a great set up for the up coming attack/defend mode.

Some maps I'd like to see:

Crimson Strait Storm: Same map, but maybe dusk-ish, with a bad thunderstorm ongoing. Heavy rain, occasional lightning flashes (don't need to see the actual lightning bolts/strikes), and of course, low visibility. The cool part would be being in the tunnel or the lower level of the dock.

Desert City Night: Think Fallujah.

Desert City Sandstorm: Above, daytime, with extreme low visibility. Sensors, BAP, ECM, ASR module, etc. become critical. Say, ~100 meter visual range. DEVILISH.

Great Forest: Northern California's great redwoods and steep mountains. A few mountain roads. Small town in the middle, perhaps.

Great Forest Fog: Above, but early morning twilight, with heavy fog and limited visibility.
