If multiple mechs are together while they are being hit?

Theoretically. if they were standing close together and the RNG managed to land a disproportionate number of shells right in that space. More likely if they had the "bad" upgrade that makes the circle smaller.
At least, I believe that each mech hit by a single shell takes it's own damage, and the 40 isn't divided up between separate mechs, but I could be wrong.

I dont use it for damage as much as herding or causing cockpit shake while my team moves on them. It has its uses but damage isnt one of them in my veiw.

Would love to see it cause a rockslide if it's used against a wall with all the mechs under it taking extra damage. Great way to get your timid team mates out from cover and into the battle.
What? it worked for the Germans in Italy during WW2. They would drop a grenade behind their own troops to get them moving.

I've blown off components on a fresh mech and even killed someone with an artillery strike. After those two occurrences I'm sold on the usefulness. Even herding with it is useful.

I have seen a single Artillery strike destroy all my hopes and dreams of my team winning.

On crimson straits I almost always drop an arty strike on the point that's out on the peninsula usually do a pile of damage and wreck any lights out there capping it.
