So here's an idea with a simple formula:

For every slot a weapon takes, multiply by 3 for Inner Sphere mechs, and the result is a requirement armor value where the weapon is placed, example:

Centurion 9A, user wants to fit an AC20 on the right arm;
AC20 takes 10 slots, 10x3=30, max armor for right arm is 32 points, user MUST have a minimun armor of 30 points to place the weapon, if so the fit is validated.

Same Centurion, but user wants 2 uAC5;
uAC5 takes 5 slots, 5x3=15, 2 of them makes 30 points of armor required too, if so then that fit is valid too.

Raven 4X, user wants to fin an AC20 in the left arm;
requires 30 points of armor but max value for that mech is 24, so no can do. AC10 or Gauss are possible though.

Locust 3M, user wants a PPC in one of the arms;
3 slots x3 = 9, max armor is 12, although standard is 8, so user must increase armor by one point before he can fit the weapon, and if he wants to add a medium laser in the same arm, thats 3 more points of armor required (12), still possible.
