From what I gather, "unit" is the preferred MWO term for the guild/clan/group structure, but if that terminology is wrong, know that I'm just referring to a group of like-minded individuals who hang out together and have fun.

So to the point: I looked over the recruitment forum, and it all seems a bit like trying to sift through a bunch of job openings and trying to find what I might be qualified for. And though I've been getting frustrated at times in PUG drops, the hassle of finding a group hasn't yet been worth the time it seems I'll need to invest to find one that will accept me.

I thought maybe a post here would let me just say what I'm looking for, and maybe some kindly forum folks who are more in touch with the various groups in the community can point me in the right direction to get me started.

With that in mind, here's some stuff about me:

I played in beta, dropped with folks on Teamspeak pretty regularly and wouldn't mind doing so now, but I do like some "alone time" now and then, too. I don't want to be hassled about having to group up if I'm just on for a half hour.

I took a break from the game, having returned within the last few months, and I've played occasionally in groups of 2-4 friends since then. But I haven't yet gone out "into the wilds" and checked out other Teamspeak servers to team with random people yet since I got back.

I'm not big into the lore of the game. A friend and I picked House Kurita because, in no particular order: red is cool; the symbol is cool; we dig the bushido concept - he's a fan of James Clavell's Shogun, I'm a fan of Raymond Feist's Empire Saga, and that's enough for us to have picked Kurita. I don't know the secret handshake, but I wouldn't mind learning it. And I'm interested to see how the faction stuff shakes out in this game eventually.

I played a little bit of tabletop Battletech 20 years ago, but never got obsessively serious about it. I played a couple of the Mechwarrior video games obsessively, but never online multiplayer until MWO.

I plan out my Mechs using Smurfy's planner, and I obsess over them, but I don't worry too much about whether I'm playing some FOTM build, or whether I'm going to be some elite/feared opponent on the battlefield. For example, my JR7-F doesn't field 6 Medium Lasers... instead, it has 4 plus a TAG. I play my way, and I don't need someone telling me I'm gimped unless I add those other 2 lasers.

I don't play every night. Sometimes, I don't play until the weekend. I can't commit to a practice schedule. But if a team is organized, has a plan, and needs me to stand on the hill and listen for seismic contacts in the tunnel, I'll play along.

Anyway, this is starting to get a bit long, but hopefully you get the idea. I don't think I'd cut it in "competitive play" for this game, but I wouldn't mind getting involved with a group that I can get to know some of the folks and drop with them, instead of winding up in Terra Therma bumping into the backs of a bunch of people as they back out of the volcano into me. :D

Any suggestions are welcome. Hopefully better than "yo, check out the recruitment forum"... heh heh.

Good gaming!

http://mwomercs.com/...-is-recruiting/

We're constantly recruiting, but the community is still small enough that you can get to know everyone. On Saturdays we usually get 2 12 man teams running, and play a lot between ourselves for fun and training.

We champion casual play, as-well as having competitive and leadership opportunities, and for casual players there are no mandatory play days, however being a community it's nice to see you whenever you can get on!

If there's anything else you want to know, just ask! But we're a friendly bunch who talk about a wide range of topics, and come from all over the world (mostly America).

I'd recommend adding Specops12 in game who will hook you up with our Teamspeak details.

:D

As an Officer of the Arkab Legions I can totally, relate to that. Arkab Legions has BEEN a casual group and we are bunch of guys who like to play with friends and Other Kurita. Most of House Kurita is really casual and like playing with other Kuritan Units. Here is a our Website if you have an Enjin Account http://arkablegion.enjin.com/home. Also check out the Kurita House Units and Feel free to drop in to any one of those. arkablegions.teamspeak.net:20508 Password: Arkab Feel free to drop in our teamspeak just to play a couple of 4 Mans. If it has to be a House unit you Could always Try Ronin. :P

The DCMS unit list Here->http://mwomercs.com/...-and-resources/ has a load of Casual 4man Teamspeaks server going, that aren't Merc units. Most of them are Pretty casual and cool guys. Nights Scorn and 9th Sword seem to be the most Hardcore and isolationist though

Keep in mind most Units have their Own SUB Groups who Attempt 12 mans But MOST ARE Casual With that In Mind Arkab Welcomes you to join our teamspeak

Third Takata Lancers is always looking for fun casual players who want to play serious when in the match.

You should also mingle with the various units and folk that hangout on the House Kurita TeamSpeak server. HouseKurita.Teamspeak3.com:6619 Password: Yakuza

Gensokyo is the largest (and probably the earliest - I created it because back then I couldn't find a single casual group in the community: there were only serious clans and Opus' lone wolf collective) complete-casual pilot group in MWO. Unfortunately we're also so casual that only 5-10% of the total population is playing, and even so, not even all the time (since we're playing other games half the time as well). While we didn't set out to recruit particularly good players or anything, somehow being Touhou-based seems to have ended up getting rather good players by default. Given how almost all of us are closed beta veterans as well (again, because it's the earliest) we also have a lot of experience.

However, we generally don't run cheese FoTMs (because it ain't fun when it's too easy), and run joke builds half the time for the heck of it. So don't exactly expect to win all the time... though when we do get sick of a loss streak and run cheese for one game the results tend to be a foregone conclusion.

Unlike basically every other clan we don't have any form of rank structure because it's unnecessary... so there ain't any politics to worry about. We have enough of that in real life. I'd like to say we don't exactly have a leader either, but for starting the thing people sometimes see me as one.

Diego Gomez is probably our strongest pilot (and is separately famous outside the clan for taking forever to press Ready in the pre-game load). I'm the main strategist/mech builder.

We are on C3 because it was the official MWO VoIP. Well, still is, not that people really care about it much though. That said we end up using it more for text chat than actual voice coordination ingame.

Memberlist is in the main post link in my sig, but the main active pilots nowadays are Yanoshiku, Diego Gomez, Reisen Udongein Inaba, Zanathan and me. Just hit us up through the ingame chat/group request if you find someone online. No obligations.

=always amused at the Merc Corp Tags, advertising their units in House Sub-Forums especially when they have their own recruitment threads=

@Auzen

There are several House Kurita Units that play casually, which ones you will find active depends heavily on your time of day. Some of the units are mixed casual/competitive and a couple more competitive but still run casual drop groups.

Primarily US Timezones:
1st Ghost
3rd Takata Lancers
9th Sword
Ronin Legion
Night Scorn

EU Timezones:
11th Vega - German Speaking Unit
36th Dieron - German Speaking Unit
3rd Takata Lancers - Small group of EU Members - English Speaking
Ronin Legion

Those units are straight off the top of my head, a few other units exist but I dont see them around much.

3rd Takata is THE Kurita group. We are what the others want to be, we're good but we have fun. We don't tell you what load out you can or can't bring, no berating you if you're having an off night. Some of our players are super competitive and some are there to absorb lasers (I can be either depending on the night). We laugh and joke and blow stuff up. Sometimes we blow up each other because, hey, if you can't shoot family who can you shoot?

3rd Benjamin Regulars are casual as well, we just now got our official training time established (Saturdays at 1600 GMT) but we have been and will continue to be for love of the game without the game dominating our lives. We do take winning seriously, but place a higher premium on fun.

It sounds like you'd feel right at home with Wraiths of Acheron because we offer casual play and if at some point you'd like to try out the competitive side of the game you can do that as well.

I suggest reading our about us page which can be found at: http://wraiths-of-ac...jin.com/aboutus

If you like what you read feel free to contact me and I'll help you from there.
