At the risk of earning oak leaves to my Medal of Feedback (with static) I have the following suggestion:

Allow the Community to participate in Hero mech selection and design.

Set up public polling and discussion with the MWO community as to what the next Hero chassis should be. Giving the Community as much participation as possible would be best, but even engaging in only step 1 or 1&2 would be a significant improvement.

1) Allow the Community (via poll) to select the Weight Class of the next hero.

2) After this poll concludes, allow the Community (via poll) to select the Chassis of the next hero. (The options of this poll could be limited to only Chassis without heroes or Chassis without a Hero in the last year)

3) Once the Chassis is selected, hold a Design Competition with finalists voted on by the Community. Part of 'making the case' for the design would be the selection of fluff and canon references, along with voting on a user-suggested load out for the 'mech. This stage may need to be divided into segments pitting various designs against each other until a final 'mech can be settled on. It would then fall to PGI to alter the geometry of the new Hero 'mech.

4) Once the Design is selected, hold a Artwork Competition with finalists voted on by the Community. There are a great number of talented users in the Fan Art segment; one salivates to contemplate the artwork they might produce. It would fall to PGI to complete the skinning of the 'mech.

Then deliver the Hero Chassis to the player base for purchase.

They're already doing this with the champion mechs. I'd rather they allow each pilot a one-time selection to create their own hero mech of whatever their favorite ride might be

That may have been the best post I've seen all week, although it should have included a "P2W" arty strike and LRMs (because I'm still confused as to whether we're playing LRM or AC Warrior Online according tot he forums)
