Not cool.

1 minute into the game in my Stalker, big explosion, no head armour. No warning, no flare.
It could have been behind me, but I didn't see it.

Seconds after the Airstrike I move to avoid consecutive strikes, get grazed by an LL and die at 90% health.

This is not fair, not cool, and definately not fun.

If a light took a risk and managed to JJ onto my face with 6 SPL and shoot it of that would have been awesome, but instead some guy with CBILLs to burn kills me with a lucky cheap shot.

It may seem like a rant, and it is, but if it happened to you less than two minutes into a game I sure you would be just as pleased. I don't mind arty / air strike, but **** like this, as uncommon as it is, still happened and ruined my fun for at least one game.

I'm not saying nerf them, but I do want heads to be immune or at least highly resistant to this. If I was in anything else that would have been instant death. Also as per my other thread (which rambled off into a bunch of trolls) I would love to see the global timer greatly increased, and the modules moved into a light / medium only role. Assaults (like the one I frequently Pilot) have enough firepower as it is.

EDIT: THIS JUST IN. INSTA-KILLED BY ARTY. (this is a second, different strike)

Don't know what else to say but...

War is hell.

I'm sure if you were on the OP4, you would have thought it was great.

This is going to happen so rarely that I don't think there is any need to change things. He got lucky and that's that. Sucks for you, good for him. No need to change anything based upon one match by one person.

I've killed someone with an artillery headshot before.

It literally turned the whole match around - we won because of it.

However, it's a fraction as likely as getting headshotted by someone with dual PPCs and an AC20, which also happens sometimes.

Of course it's irritating to get snuffed right into a match. I'm even more irritated when it's 2 minutes into a match on Forrest Colony and two poptarts go up and both hit your side torso, blowing it out and killing you before you've even pulled the trigger one time.

I'm actually all for it on Arty. It makes it worth 1/2 to 1/3rd your total match income in most games.

Actually I find it far more annoying when three Spiders or Locus with Machine Guns run around me, the Spiders shrugiing off half the hits I manage to land, and kill me than getting caught in an arti burst.

Although truth be told I have yet to suffer a head hit from an arti strike.

Lucky artillery strike, bad luck for your 'mech. 1 death certainly isn't enough to warrant PGI re-examining the mechanic and changing how it works. I've never used them, and don't plan on doing so.

Sounds like Artillery is working as intended. Seriously. That is how Artillery works. Big shells of harm come flying in. Sprays an area with destruction and death Then the party begins. Sounds like you ran into some folks who know how to use Arty the right way.

Imagine there was a bug where every game there was a 3% change of you randomly dieing 2 minutes into the game.
Sure, it doesn't happen very often, so why fix it?

Shiet happens. It's not just a cliché. It's a fact.

Sometimes it does feel that way! However Arty works like LRMs which also have a chance to blow your head off. If you can't accept the risk don't play the game.

And no. I haven't use Arty yet.

2 minutes into the game? man I'd be happy to survive that long in my locusts...

calm down, a luck shot like 2xgauss into the canopy at 1km, 'it happens.

A bug is one thing. This is not a bug, it's enemy action.

Wait, there is a right way to use Arty? That's what I get for having Mulligan as my "guy". Never on time or on target!

I like using arty. I think they are well placed at the moment.

I've probably called arty down on targets ~50 to 70 times and I have maybe one or two kills to show for it.

They aren't over-powered.

I'd rather have the 2 million cbills.

Why can't I kill anyone with Artillery Strikes the way the OP was killed? So far, it's just been a waste of 40k C-Bills.

I've come to really enjoy Arty, I load it on pretty much every mech I run. I use it maybe 1 match in 4, maybe 1 in 3. What's really funny is when you pop it off at a bundle of people you see 1 of 2 responses:

1: "Pfft, artillery don't scare me! I'm going to keep shooting at this target... OHJEBUSOWIEDEARGODMAKEITSTOPTHEWORDISEXPLODINGHELPIMONFIRE!!!!!!!!!!!" This target, now 40-120 points shy on armor from where he was is probably confused and wanting his mommy. Finish what you started and give him some Quality Spectating Time.

2: "ARTILLERY! INCOMING! SCATTER LIKE RABBITS! OH GOD NOT AGAIN! PLEASE LORD NOT ME I'M NOT READY!" This target has gotten a visit from Uncle Arty before and didn't enjoy it. They see the red smoke and they are off at a sprint.

Either way artillery does its job very well. Air strikes I have trouble getting the use out of as they're far more situational and easier to miss with. They need to be wider and/or have more shots.

I love it though. Line up the smoke, then it's all "Target zeroed, firing for effect, ten rounds incoming. TASTE THE RAINBOW MOTHERF****ERS!"

Good and good for you.
