I'd like to see opponents in the Testing Ground move and fire back. AKA bot driven mechs.

These don't need to be ultra sentient AI opponents, but some level of moving targets would greatly help new players and would also help those of us practicing how to hold a targetting lead and hitscan weapons on a moving target.

Doing so would also provide PGI with some experience deploying these, and some feedback for them. Both valuable data for any PVE content development that may be coming down the pipe.

I can only assume that AI programming is incredibly hard, and even more so for something complex as MWO.

Otherwise PGI would be throwing us co-op missions years ago.

I doubt creating a simple (or complicated) moving pattern would be hard. Problem is that I'm not sure it would imitate 'real' mech combat which is performed on toasters servers

There is a big difference between developing an coop AI and simple movement and fire patterns.

He was talking about player co-op missions were 4 players form a lance and go do some mission. For the moving target it could be just that, a Bullseye that pops up on the hill and slides in one direction that players have to track and can get used to leading a target so that in game the learning curve is much less steep.

It's a good Idea, doubt we will see it any time soon though.

I have a sneaking suspicion we've already seen and played against pgi developed ai controlled mechs in regular matches...

And that's all I'll say on that matter.
