It's just an iconic and very capable Clan Omnimech. Ton for ton, it has a very good performance ratio, even compared to other Clan chassis. Though a pilot will now and forever be the true determining factor in how effective the Mech he pilots, having a more capable chassis does increase the overall effectiveness that a pilot can get out of his Mech.

As for why IS hate/like it, that's all fiction/roleplaying. Many people will buy a Timber Wolf when it comes out, only a handful will bring out the true potential in the chassis.

Mad Cat is not really a name for the mech.
As the first inner sphere mech pilots saw the timber wolf, their Computer couldn´t identify the chassis. It looks like a crossover of Marauder and Catapult. So it was called MAD CAT.

I jk, I fell in love with Timber Wolf when I was 10 or 11 and read my first Battletech book - Falcon Guard.

My best guess is that it's a Heavy mech that can stand toe-to-toe with Atlas' with a good Pilot, and Comstar cannot easily replicate it.

It's such a wildly useful chassis, it has speed, power, and armor. Any two of those are generally going to be the roots of a Great Mech.

Aegis Kleais hit the nail on the head, that is pretty much it.

Most Clansmen, regardless of their love or hate of Clan Wolf will use the mech simply because it is one of the most efficient mechs out there for armor and damage done. That and it has become an icon mech of the invasion as it was seen across all four clans.

It is also hands down the most iconic mech of Mechwarrior. It has been featured on cover art, book covers, fan made programs and such usually feature it. It is hands down the most versatile mech out there, it can do it all!

That and Aidan Pryde piloted one, an viciously cut down nearly twenty mechs on his own.

Its pretty much been stated, but you can not overstate the versatility of this mech. If it is in the first wave of clan mechs available i will be making bank to save specifically for the gobs of loadouts you can place on this mech.

It can do Recon, It can do Frontal Assaults, Damned thing can do stealth if you want it to. Oh and get this. Original versions? BT versions. This sucker packed JUMP JETS! This mech was literally capable of filling any role you needed it for and doing it with style and power. For a lot of pilots it will be a main stay must get mech and i'll freely admit to originally hoping this would be available at launch. It wont be so i'll settle for an orion.

A mech this good is going to really alter the landscape.

Mad Cat is the inner sphere reporting name for what the clans call a timber wolf.
No name is right or wrong people.
Like all Russian aircraft have a NATO reporting name. The Soviet Union did not always assign official “popular names” to its aircraft. So what we call a SU-27 Flanker, Russia just says Сухой Су-27. It is both,it just depends on what side you are on, as to what you call it.
Another example, the Chinese call the Chengdu J-10 Jiān shí, we call it a J-10 Vigorous Dragon.

I was gonna start a thread titled "WHERE'S MAH' MADCAT??!!"

It only makes sense that the dev's wouldn't include it right away. I suppose I was foolish to think otherwise.
