While I believe random maps would be both fun and competitive I doubt PGI have the resources or expertise to do this.

Some examples of cool tech invented by small companies was mentioned above, and while a small company can invent the best of things, it is not PGI's area of expertise. I don't think anyone has any complaint to the current gameplay, it feels good, it looks good, so I am impressed in this small company and what they have done. To work in a different area I doubt would do us much good. About using community driven map development would be good and smart by PGI, but they have thrown that gauntlet away a long time ago for unknown reasons.

As for random maps being uncompetitive because unfairness and unknown terrain, I'd say the exact opposite. You never have full details of a dropzone, at best an old map. So this is something that needs to be overcome in each drop. If one map favors one team, the next game will be vice versa, in the end it will be 50/50. Then having 50% as cakewalks and 50% as total losses is not so fun, I believe this can be controlled by limiting the complexity of the maps. (They don't have to be perfect as you will never see it again) The question is are there any companies specializing in map generation?

If a random map favours one team, they better be quick to recognise whatever it is that favours them and exploit it. Otherwise the enemy could easily neutralise the advantage. And that is just what they can see at the beginning.

There could be some nice terrain at the start point, but they don't know if there is an even better place on the other side of that hill.

Contrast this with the crafted maps we have now, where every player has 30+ games to test exactly the best places to defend, or routes to attack etc.

I don't think this to be really viable seeing as how we want nice, detailed, and varied map designs.

Now if we'd be content with MW2 (31st or Merc) style random maps this could be a possibility but I'd think the end result would be rather boring. :P

The solution to this is detailed tiles. Like Hexes matched up to create geography and maps.
