As suggested this is yet another idea for clan roll out. Please bare with me, I personally think this is a good idea but again it is yet another way to implement the clans lol.
From what I understand when the clans showed up they were nasty and damn near unstoppable. I know everyone wants their Timber Wolves (Madcat) but they should be earned. Here is where my idea comes into play. First thing that needs to happen is the creation of Clan Mechs (one of each weight class) and Clan Tech. Once they are happy with these announce a tournament, this can happen before or after the start of Community Warfare. Allow twelve man groups to compete for a chance to represent a clan in the game. Make the amount of clans available as a reward to equal to half the amount of teams competing (ie 12 teams 6 clans). The winning group gets to chose first and so on down the line. Once they choose a clan they will be given a new account with all the clan mech and tech available. This is step one in the whole plan.
The next part is the fun part for me at least. The teams that acquired the "Clan Accounts" will be able to launch as two stars or a binary (two groups of five mech) to give their victims a two mech advantage, and launch them against PUG groups appropriate to the area of space they attacked in the lore. The clanners can ONLY launch if they have a full group. If the PUG group wins they get a chance to salvage clan tech and salvage. Clan Tech will be awarded randomly from what survived the battle and will only be acquired that way (unless they make a black market that players can sell the tech to other players for C-bills). Mech on the other hand will be available for sale to either the group or the person who got killing blow for C-Bills for a limited time of one hour. This mech will be stripped of all weapons armor and equipment. This is to allow you to build it the way you want and not get the benefit of the tech normally on it. After the hour is up, if no one bought the mech it goes to the house scientist to be reversed engineered. Once a house gets lets say a thousand mech in this fashion, it will be available for sale to everyone in that house.
I do believe that will space out the clans and make it a usable trophy for people to show off and allow the clans to be represented by the best and most deadly pilots in MWO. This is just an idea and I think a fun way of doing it. Please comment and give suggestions as the more it is discussed the better chance it has to be used (if in only part).

The rich getting richer and expanding the skill gap will not be perceived as fair by the casual players that make up the bulk of the player base in a game like MWO. I do not believe PGI would go for an idea like this for that reason alone. Plus, will we have matchmaking lobbies in time to support such a tournament? They promise alot but rarely deliver in the time they say they will.

No, but obtaining Clan tech should require a lot of time and effort.

I think loyalty points should play into this. There's no way a faction would hand that coveted clan tech out to new pilots. That tech would go straight into the hands of grizzled veterans.

There are no Clans.
The Clans do not exist.
The Clans are a myth.
You have been warned.
