If your patcher is downloading very slowly or not at all, try this. Change your DNS servers to Google's (8.8.8.8 & 8.8.4.4). You will need to go into the TCP/IP v4 properties for you network device. Change the radio button for DNS servers from automatic to manual and put those in.
I noticed the incredibly slow download, and was reminded of this weekend when I was trying to download something from Microsoft. Everything else was working fine so I figured some CDN was to blame and grabbed the file I needed with bittorent.
Come today I try to update MWO, look up the IP its connected to and it's Akamai's. Tried the file from MS again and checked the source of that download. Also Akamai, same IP range, and still super slow.
Akamai depends on DNS somehow to decide which servers to send you to, changing DNS servers seemed to get me a better download server.

You can make the change by going to the control panel and editing the network device properties, and changing the TCP/IP (v4 on Vista and beyond) settings, and simply overriding the default settings (If you already have manual settings, save them so you can revert back).
This solution will fix the following issues:
- It will definitely fix issues where the patch is timing out or downloading painfully slow. (0.02 mbps)
- It should also fix MD5 file corruption issues which are caused by inconsistencies in the DL speed.
As LemursClaw says, it appears to be an issue with how people are routed to the content provider MWO uses to host files.
