Maybe this has been addressed elsewhere... but frankly, why don't you cool it on the mechs, which generally cost way too much to start with, and finish adding Inner Sphere weapons a gear like Streak SRM 4s? How about ER Medium Lasers? ER Small Lasers?

Why don't you finish the current weapon set before you go ballistic on new mechs?

(And unrelated, but while I'm at it... how about that new UI?)

I can hardly understand what you are talking about. ;)

The devs have add ER weapons and SSRM or the player to new mechs?

Hello MechWarriors!

Here's the Ask the Devs 50 (Quickfire Edition)!

Thanks to Bryan for the multitude of answers. Stay tuned for the new format of Ask the Devs, coming SOON™ :D

#13 Xenroth: What do you think about not-so-common weapons that already exist in the timeline, like the Long Tom and Swarm LRM? Will we see them in the future?
A: We're focused on Clan tech weapons and items currently. After that we can look at adding any other items that are currently available in the 3050 era.

#43 Sir Stomps A Lot: Any chance we'll see a small ballistic weapon other than machine guns in the near future? My Locust 1V(P) would really like some variety.
A: If it's in the timeline and available, eventually.

PGI is still using the BattleTech timeline to determine which 'Mechs and weapons are featured in MWO at any given time.
Currently, MWO's timeline is paused roundabout the eve of the Clan Invasion - that is, 3049-3050.

As such, weapons that come much later in the BattleTech timeline - such as the IS versions of the ER Small Laser & the ER Medium Lasers (neither of which is available until 3058), or the IS version of the Streak SRM-4 (also not available until 3058) - are unlikely to be added in the near-term.
Likewise, Clan-built 'Mech and equipment is unlikely to be included until the Clans are introduced as factions.
Additionally, some weapons that would be available timeline-wise cannot be added due to technical issues - for example, both the Long Tom Artillery Cannon and the Arrow IV Artillery Missile Launcher cannot be mounted on 'Mechs unless the ability to split weapons across multiple locations is also added.

That being said, there are a number of additional weapons that could potentially be added, given the aforementioned constraints:
  • Binary Laser Cannon (energy weapon)
  • Sniper Artillery Cannon (ballistic weapon)
  • Thumper Artillery Cannon (ballistic weapon)
  • Vehicle Flamer (ballistic weapon)
  • Silver Bullet Gauss Rifle (ballistic weapon)
  • Vehicular Grenade Launcher (ballistic weapon)
  • Light Rifle (ballistic weapon)
  • Medium Rifle (ballistic weapon)
  • Heavy Rifle (ballistic weapon)
  • Mech Mortar/1 (missile weapon)
  • Mech Mortar/2 (missile weapon)
  • Mech Mortar/4 (missile weapon)
  • Mech Mortar/8 (missile weapon)
There are also some miscellaneous items that could be added, such as the C3 Master/Slave Computers and Triple-Strength Myomer.

Ui 2.0 is schedule to be delivered soon. After that adding weapon and wep tuning will be heaps easier. YES its an XML change to change the stats in game but is a huge amount of ui work to make that change appear in the interface.... Hence writing ui2.0 in the first place.

Also each weapon required a large amount of testing, modeling and testing again on every mech. Not a trivial task

SB came out with Unbound. That scenario pack required Clan tech salvage. It is still too early.
