Ladies and gentlemen,

It is my pleasure to proudly announce a use case for single heat sinks that makes them more efficient than doubles.

I give you:

The Refrigerator

I confess that this is not an entirely original idea. I first saw it used to startling effect by none other than the great Harrison Ford himself, to avoid the unpleasant kinetic effects of an improved air strike:

so how is that SHS version better than DHS?

Fool... DHS master race shows your pitiful attempt at a fridge with THE Refrigerator X (more surviable due to standard engine, 4% more heat capacity and cooling speed and a little more armor on the legs to top it off... and 2 million cheaper).

I think Adridos beat me to it but Single heatsinks are not better

You can remove some armor from the legs and arms and add 2 more heat sinks. :D

Too slow, tough...

1. That's a Locust.
2. You're using an SPL on a mech with very limited ranged weaponry (an ML is much better for versatility in this case).
3. That's a Locust.
4. You actually CAN fit in 3 DHS on that build just fine.
5. You will never live long enough to burn through 3 tons of MG ammo with only 4 MGs.
6. Did I mention that it's a Locust?

I have run out of ammo many times..... So not sure what you're saying here. Also, it's a mech so for the OP to say there is no viable build is false. Here it is. Like it or hate it... It's there and valid.

Brilliant work everyone, perhaps we can convince PGI to do a house appliance themed sale where the cost of upgrading back to single heat sinks has a 30% MC reduction?

They should put some suitable home appliance colours on sale too, like... grey. And white.

Refrigerator WTF. I dare you to beat that heat efficiency without using a flamer or TAG.

With that many heatsinks, who needs armour? :D

but here's something interesting.

sacrificing a mere 20 so percent of that effciency i've gained almost 10% speed and over 300% armour! in fact i've almost maxed it!

that's the thing about DHS, why do you think the devs have never yielded to make 1.4s true DHS? because it is in fact too much and it would make their economy cbill sink too obvious.

because the system is developed specifically to reward cbill sinks through endo and DHS upgrades, taking your cbills so you're more likely to purchase MC. it's a balancing act played through out the developement where people were hiting the grind too early with R+R {the bad players couldn't earn much at all to even begin so they would leave, not the right balance to make real money} and the cbill earnings decrease was to balance this sink and earn sytem.

how does it work?

you are not encouraged to use lvl1 tech they've nerfed it to the point where champions have to be trials now. it works by the heat threashold bonus system coupled to what this version of mechlab's capable of via engines and pilot trees, {no wonder heat neutral mechs are sin around here, those mechs bypasses the economy system that's supposed to plague you towards the mc button}

when you have SHS you take up crits on the mech and tonnage to gain heat effciency, the engines in MWO however have been given slots at higher ratings {the lower rating ones should've gotten these for balance but we know damn well that faster is better so the perk incentive has been given to the higher rating engines} and you get more slots per higher engines. so apply this between SHS vs DHS.

for an engine with 3 slots your SHS can go in and save your mech 3 slots for the build, for DHS that's 9 slots! this means more of your mech is free for endo {more cbill sinking} so you can afford more armour and weapons, the heat bonuses for DHS have been organised to benifit this build technique and screw the rest because cbill sinking. it only gets better the higher your engine is {which of course costs more} this is in addition to boosting the heatthreashold and faster movement speed and torso twist wise.

DHS has been sewn right up into the uber system of mech building to use any other method {SHS to utilise tonnage and bigger weapons on heavy and assault chassis used to be a viable build stratagy in past mech games like the earlier examples in this thread but it negates the economy system so it's been nerfed from day dot} is to gimp yourself of an overall better performer.

SHS is a waste of code for gamers POV it's just a hurdle in the way of making a more capable mech saddly.

Single Heat sinks? I ran this build in Closed Beta before double heat sinks. One ER for in close.

So... due to PGI's cbill nerf and he lack of playtime I've been getting I didn't have enough cbills to upgrade my Shadowhawk 2H to DHS.

I came up with the Mini-Phract. I have yet to overheat with it and it works reasonably considering everyone ignores it to shoot the Atlas or whatever.

To be fair I only made this config because I didn't have enough cbills and I had a spare STD200 and a crapton of AC5s sitting unused but a medium that effectively throws a gauss round down range ever 1.5 seconds isn't all bad. Sure the ammo bins are bit small but you're going to explode once they notice you're throwing a fair amount of damage downrange so you won't empty them most matches..

Most stock builds are actually suppose to work with the SHS on them, with their minimal weapons or less heat intensive weapons. SHS stocks worked great in MW3.

They always will be bad [in MWO only] unless PGI reverts and completely redevelops the 'heat system' and heatsinks.
