I was just thinking about this and I wanted to see what people thought.

I like battletech because to me the technology is somewhat believable. The changes to neo-feudalism are kinda out there, but who knows. I know that after a collapse of society, making my own feudal society would be on the top of my list. :o I think that the progression of technology, while being totally fictitious, is one of the more believable views of the future for me. I always joke about what I think the future will actually hold as far as military/civilian tech. With all the drones and unmanned machines now, we may be in for more of a skynet/terminator (also one of my favorite franchises) future. :)

I just think that it is pretty cool and I like to see how visions of the future developed long ago can hold up to the test of time. Like transformers in the cartoon playing VHS lol Also who doesn't love the idea of huge robots, I mean C'mon!

Also if this has been posted a lot, I apologize in advance

Aside from all you listed above. The concept of a single person controlling a 30+ foot death machine, instead of a crew like a tank or submarine sparks something in me. It's kind of reminiscent of the days of chivalry with knights in honorable combat (even though battles generally aren't that honorable in the 31st century). Back in high school I read the BT book Natural Selection and was blown away.

The sci-fi elements combined with combined-arms warfare makes for good combat.

Mostly the lore and the 'Mechs!

I love the universe, its history and the concepts around which is built. No good guys factions (except maybe for Victor Davion :D ), new space feudalism, interstellar travel and comms.. Big interstellar empires in war with each other and 'Mechs which, as everyone would say, remind of the old knights (Knights of the Inner Sphere anyone? :) ).
My first MechWarrior game was MW2 when i was very young, what i can say about it..?

Loved the music in the launcher menu, loved the whole soundtrack, loved the overall atmosphere of 31st Century honorable combat and war-loving Clans. The Timberwolf, Mad Dog, Summoner, Marauder IIC. And Clan Wolf. When i approached back to the franchise and especially MWO my love for the Wolves came back.

Mechwarrior 2 mercs was one of my first PC games ever and is for sure my favorite. I got the disc to MW2 but it didn't work so had to take it back and I was so disappointed, luckily my dad found something he thought would be a good replacement! Man that was awesome!

Mercs?
Ghost Bear?
Cause there wasn't any Commando in Mech:2 non-expac :)
Mech:2 was my introduction to the series, missed the Xpacs though.

(Personal irritation when people label the xpacs as simply Mech:2 :D)

The titanium edition of mech 2 contained both the ghost bear and MW2: Mercs expansion. Which were really standalone games, in fact mercs had more content than the original MW2 did.

Now I wish I could get my copy of 2 to work

While I am wishing, I wish for world peace and to find a copy of the Mech:2 expacs that are under $200. <_<

there is mercs, i think it would be easier to find the games separately vs the complete edition.

Mech3 sorta runs on my XP computer.....
Mech4 (woot! all of them!) runs on the same computer I play MWO on....

Mech2 looks at me and says.....

No.

I will win though.... eventually.

.....looking through other places with help for installing the old games.... it occurs to me that I aught to worry which version of that I just bought.

Yep just insta bought that. We'll see if I can get it to work, I think some people have been able to..I'll have to look into it

I think GOG has some pretty detailed instructions on getting these old monsters to work. I am going to start there

I have to admit - I don't know anymore.
It has been 20 years since my first contact - and I don't know what was the reason to like BattleTech - all I know is that I like BattleTech. :D
