Friday I had 1.46 Ratio for K/D and around 60 wins ahead of losses, both positive on Medium Chasis and Heavies.

But this weekend ignoring DC's and missing players, I have been put mostly with brand new players, to the point my ratio is now 1.31, and I'm literally 10 wins ahead of loses. Majority of games I've done top damage over both teams, and its starting to get a little silly now.

So I ask, is the Matchmaking system working?

Yup!

Once you have enough games under your belt... your ELO will settle into "your groove". You have only been playing for two months or so. Let us just get kind of silly and say you play 150 matches a month (5 a day), so around 360 matches so far.

200 wins, 150 losses give or take... yeah MM knows where your groove is at.

Now it wants to settle you into that groove or give you a chance to derail it.

You are being paired with newbs basically to normalize your ELO. If you are paired with Newbs and you lose consistently then your ELO is too high and dropping.

Other effects such as your mech choice, pilot skills, mech upgrades, etc also factor in... did you buy a new mech?

A decent player will typically perform "very well" until their Elo score reaches a more accurate level. This takes time.

While you are still climbing it will undervalue a good player because your elo is lower than it "should be" Elo gains/drops by very small increments.

I now have 800 games under my belt with the above ratio, so I'm assuming thing should have settled by now? But I'm still getting put with brand new players, and its just getting silly now - Lost another 5 games in a row tonight, so either the quality of matches has dramatically decreased this weekend, I'm extremely unlucky, or the matchmaker isn't working properly.

Or you got paired with people who have high ELOs but just bought new mechs that they have no clue how to drive, or said I will learn to use <insert weapon system they suck at> or die trying!!

Or yea maybe you got unlucky. Another way to look at it is most people jump right back into a match as soon as possible, so you may well have been dropping with/against the same people over and over again. Try taking a 5 minute break, so the people you were playing with are now in a match, and maybe you can catch a different wave.

Or maybe you caught a wave of luck, and rode it to a overly high score...and now it's self correcting?

Also a couple of things. How do you know they are new players? Also, very few of the serious players here care about someone's personal KDR. It's more about whether you are a team player etc. My KDR is .33 atm. I don't consider that bad for this game. I often play support mechs, whether scouts or fire support, and so not worried about getting the kill as long as the target goes down.

Even non-new players are trying out the champion mechs just for something different while they wade through the grind to a new mech. Myself I took a ride in a Blackjack Champion.
(My take on the BJ-C) It was okay, but the firing rates of its weapons were much too slow for my tastes. I've grown accustomed to rapid-fire light damage. Waiting what feels like years to be able to fire again has grown to feel uncomfortable.

If you don't like where you've been "settled" to you can always run meta builds to skyrocket into something tougher. Or you can deliberately tank your score by running joke builds. When Spiders first came out my score tanked big time (from a 1.5 kdr to less than a 0.6 kdr) trying to learn some useful way of playing them pre HSR. Damn things were made out of paper and so easy to hit that it was common to be 'accidentally' shot by teammates and killed that way. I wound up turning them into snipers, and later on when ballistic and missile HSR came out, they became invincible. But I got it back beyond 1.0 and when I see it nearing 1.2 I let it tank some more so I can rest in a nice, comfy place where I don't have to see the meta and can have fun.

5 in a row is not unlikely at all. 5 losses is not statistically unusual, although it may certainly 'feel' like a bad run.

If Elo worked perfectly you'd have much closer to 1:1 for win:losses, and I bet you have more wins than that. When you win 5 in a row I bet you don't insist it was "broken".

THIS ^^^

I always step away from the keyboard if I just lost the match or... there was a 4 man premade running in the last match.

This is the easiest single thing you can do to break losing streaks. Well aside from not DUI.

As an anecdotal example of how Elo doesn't always work quite right: For a long time the only mediums I owned were Cicadas, and I played them pretty much like lights. I was pretty decent with them, and I settled into that groove for all medium mechs. When I decided to branch out into Hunchbacks I was getting paired as if I was "pretty decent" even though I had no idea what I was doing for a while.

Basing it on mech class has the effect. Not every mech in a weight class plays the same as the others.

I see your point but I am worried someone may come along and think that KDR is factored into the Elo....

From testing, it partly is. Combination of wins/losses + KDR. We have a player whose kdr was for a bit over 6.0. He was guilty of stat padding for quite some time. Basically stealing everyone's kills, always playing meta, etc. The matches he has by himself "are full of meta" and when we join him, we've come to notice that no match with him involved is fun. None of them. It's 100% triple UAC/5 Muromets, 2 PPC + Gauss Cataphract 3Ds and Heavy Metals, AC/40 jagers, virtually every feasible form of cheese that exists. The sad thing is that having us with him "lowers their skill to something playable" and it's like... Holy {Scrap} I haven't even got to the water yet and half the team's been headshot by only 3 different people! We've lost 6 players to headshots before the 40 second marker of the game.

That's what he considers "playable."

Hmm I stand corrected. Also, I wouldn't play with him much....padding stats is bad in my book. So quit it or I quit you is my position on that. ;)

Now someone who was just that good, that's different.

I don't play with him much because of that. There's nothing fun about playing against what I'm pit against when he's in the group. Even with the cheese rigs I haven't got a chance in heck unless I throw about all of the "fun" of everything about the game out the window and go purely for headshots.
