Anyone care to share some workable builds for either the Wolverine or Griffin? Neither seem to have particularly excellent hardpoint placement. What about the other variants?

Its got some flexibility built in.

Right now, SRM hit detection remains a larger concern to me.

The Griffin has a similar shape to that of the SHD, hopefully it will share the same dimensions, but it looks bigger from the Phoenix art; it could become a fairly better splatcent (3xASRM6, 3xMLs, jj capability), but even then, SRM detection and damage dispersion all over the enemy mech due to the dull tube-like trajectory doesn't make it so.. interesting either.
In the end, I'd not get any of the two, I'd like to know dimensions and hitboxes before doing that. But even then, frankly the SHD has already proven to be the best mech of the Phoenix pack and I have the feeling it will outclass both the Griffin and Wolve.

The thing is, a lot of folk were complaining about how rubbish the 'Hawk would be before it launched, and now we all know how wrong they were! (for the record, I knew it was going to kick arse : ). I do tend to agree with your points though, and one of the reasons I got the Phoenix pack was for a decent hero medium so perhaps I really don't need another.

The wolverine 7K looks like it may be a beast. The rest of the saber mechs look like garbage.

Arms should be the one thing that is big on all mechs.
The bigger the arms the better you can protect your critical systems. Arms are meant to be blown off and I am all for it if it means keeping my torso's alive.

Yep, people complained for the thing being tall, but in the end the SHDs proved to be tall but slim, with hitboxes small enough to justify XL engines and arms that can help protecting those sides. Also the ballistics (FOTM) that are very high-mounted makes it further interesting.

Of course they are, but I'm not that happy when half or more of my firepower is in there and it blows off in no time. I lose my ppc/ppcs in the RA of the SHD in the blink of an eye, I don't want to think how much would last under fire the rather bulky RA with the precious ballistics in the Wolverine. I'd stick with the SHD instead of it

It would be cool to have better control of your arms actually, like a button press to raise them fully to guard your torso from attack. That would give those pesky actuators more of a use than just a 10% firing arc increase.

The 5M with the energy hardpoints in one arm is a real problem, it's my least favourite variant of the bunch... Which makes it, what, the third best medium in the game?

Lol I like the 5M more than all of them, it's the most balanced one, with the 2D2 is in second place. I was even planning to get rid of the 2H, 3xAC2 isn't for me.
Whenever they'll finally fix srms the 2D2 it's going to be a nice deathtrap with 4xSRM4s and even know rivals in dangerousness with streakintaroes, since it has JJs while the KTO misses them greatly (without accounting the size and hitboxes of that thing)

I ran the 5M with a pair of PPCs, streaks and machine guns once and it was interesting. Losing your gun arm is just such a ****** though. I'm poptarting with the 2H at the moment, although the 5M is better suited to that, the 2H(P) has a c-bill boost which is essential to my farming efforts.

Let me know how well you manage to shoehorn an ERPPC into that sucker's head.
Anyway, the 7K looks like it's going to be a pretty boss energy/missile jumper, but probably won't be any better than the SHD-2D2.

The other night and I kid you not 7 times i hit a phract and jenner with SRM's. Seven times and nothing. I had finally said screw it and put 2 streaks in my hunchback which drives me nuts. But it had to be done. I really really want them to fix Srms.
