Is anyone else energy boating this mech. I've got mine rolling with 2 LL, and 5 ML. Any pointers on running a "hot build".

I dont really see any point to the SS since the SE has better hardpoints AND jumpjets.

Mechs with more than 5 energy hardpoints are pointless because of the heat brick wall.

I run the Super Sport with 2 LLs (in the right torso for better ability to shoot over hills and buildings), and 2 MLs each in the right arm and left torso. ROunded out with an AMS, endo steel, 300 STD engine, 18 double sinks, and 416 armor.

5 medium lasers and 2 PPC.

I'd avoid the large lasers though, they might tempt you to fire them in close combat.

Now for advice... Don't miss and cool off while using your arm mounted medium lasers and trying to get back to cover.

Only fire the mediums when you know for sure that you can hold and focus the shot. Use larges on the arm for the moving targets and the bulk of your firing. Bring both cool shots if you can. Try to avoid extended brawls because you will need time to cool off between fights.

Laser focus is the most important thing. If you are spreading your damage you are not going to fare well.

STD280, 2PPCs in the shoulder and 4 ML (2&2). The fifth died and came back as a heat sink. My most successful Thud (I like my jump-brawler 9SE more though)

STD 275, 2 er large lasers on the arm and 5 medium lasers in the torso.

Managed to fit mine with 20DHS.

I did quite well with it, I didnt find the heat too much of a problem except maybe on Mordor.

Why did I laugh so hard at this? ;)

*ahem*

I previously used a 4 LL boat model, but stopped after seeing a Cataphract doing the same thing with much more finesse. I tried 2 PPCs and some lasers, but being a faux Catapult-K2 didn't go to well either. I'll probably just go with the classic 2 LL + 4-5 ML. Or... maybe I'll try this.

Well a heat sink would be higher up on the karmic ladder so good for it.

I run LL and mediums on mine I've never had alot of trouble with it.

I love my 5SS, I call it the Triple Nickle because it looks like 555.

It never disappoints and always acquits itself well.

Summerary
STD250 Engine
x15 DHS
AMS

x2 PPC's (RT high mount)
x5 Mediums (2 Arm, 3 torso)
x1 LRM10 (x1 tons of ammo)

It's phenomenal. Use the PPC's and LRM at range and when they get within 270 use the Medium lasers.

Just never use both at the same time.

I've always enjoyed 4 large lasers on my K2. The 5SS should be able to do the exact same build, and if you trade two of those LL for four MLs you get the same damage and an even more efficient heat profile (but with less damage at long range)

also you can alpha 2 LL + 4 ML unlike 4 LL ;)

5ss is my least favorite Thunderbolt. I haven't invested much in it but I run with one LLas in the high mounts three mlas in the other torso and 2 mpulse in the arm, it does alright. I am sure with double HS it would do better.

I had a random idea for my 5SS, so i a XL315 Engine, 5 Medium Lasers, 2 Medium Pulse Lasers (arm hardpoints), and a LRM 10 with 19 DHS to keep heat in check. Weapon group 1 is the MPLs on chain fire, group 2 is the MLs on chain fire, group 3 the MLs on alpha, and 4 is the LRM.

I use the LRM for some indirect fire, or just long range fire to help where i can, i've even picked off a few weakened mechs with it. I mostly chain fire the med lasers and add in the Med pulse when i can with the mini alpha used when i see someone almost dead.

My old top build was the pre-charge-time gauss dragon but i've really enjoyed my thunderbolts since then, still decently quick (for a heavy) while seemingly more tanky than my dragons even if only 5 tons heavier.

I have two erllas in the right torso in the high position for sniping, two mlas in the arm and an lrm 15 on the shoulders with a couple tons of ammo. I hate not having anything in that other torso...the three missing lasers is sad. But, with this configuration, I have lots of firepower for lots of situations and it doesn't melt all the time.
