When I first started playing I had a Dragon that I kept stock for a little while, but since then I don't think I've used anything in its stock configuration until the Shadow Hawks came out. My 2H and I think the 2D2 are still almost stock, just double heat sinks here and a slightly larger missile rack there. They still run out of ammo fairly quickly but the feel of using my speed to survive, being a skirmisher with an AC/5 and LRM at 500-600 meters and only closing in when they run dry do do what little more I can with a medium laser and SRM rack.
It may not sound impressive, but it's pretty rewarding when you can still get 450 damage in a match with a stock build and it feels more... I don't know how to put it. You've got a mech that's not the best, but you pilot it as best as you can. You feel good because you're not just exploiting the current meta (I have other mechs for that. B)). It's almost as though you're playing in a story-line mode for other games, it feels more immersive, stuck with what class you've chosen, pushing yourself harder.

I think this would be a great alternate game mode, to have stock builds only but put repair and rearm back in and work in salvage.

Can we just make MW:O open source? ;)

I love playing a stock or close-to-stock loadout.

Also, if a stock only mode ever materializes then I'll already know how to manage my ammo/heat/armor properly.

Stock weapons. Upgrades as needed to make it viable, endo, DHS, XL engine...

Stock weapons...yes.
Everything else needs changed to be viable in this broken game ;)

I guess the idea of stock builds are, you could field one person in a really good mech or multiple mechs with less technology, irrelevant for mwo.

I don't play stock builds, but quite often might just improve the stock builds but keep a similar layout.

I absolutely would love to be able to use stock builds in this game, but PGI has made it impossible. You're forced to customize your mechs in order to stand a chance. Believe it or not, if there wasn't any mechlab/customization, I'd own a LOT more mechs than I do. Cause if I wanted something that my current mech doesn't do, I'd just go buy a different mech that can do what I need. Right now you can turn any mech into anything you want. I'm not a fan of that; makes too many mechs redundant. I'd love nothing better than a stock only gametype.

i would support a stock only gameplay, maybe PGI will need to make some changes to some mehcs but, stock loadouts would bring the truly meaning of mech VARIANTS.

Not ever. SHS suck way to hard, configuring mechs is one of the best parts why avoid it?

Stock loadout gameplay would be nice. However is there any clear winners over others? I’d probably play stock loadouts if these few things were true:

- Stock only queue existed
- There were more players to support the split queue
- Ability to save loadouts
- Ability to switch to stock loadout (would like to save loadouts so that I can easily switch back to my custom one)

I’d like a stock games because of the poor builds, the high heat, and etc, however some loadouts come with DHS and XL engines and endo, and those might be the better/preferred loadouts.
I would not like stock games because I’m afraid you will only see a handful of mechs.

The big draw for me when it comes to stock games is that people aren’t running the latest meta, they aren’t hyper optimised builds, damage output would be relatively slow, players would play differently, and overall I feel the game would trickier to play but in a good way that it teaches people about heat management and find new ways to play and make use of what's available to them.

Ye Olde BattleTech Queue:
* Random stock 'mech assignment, no DHS/XL variants.

You fight in what you get, would be like random lance games in the old TT days.

I run every mech I buy stock at least once. I also generally try and retain the flavour of the mech when customizing them. So my Awesomes use 3 big energy weapons, my Centurions all retain their big ballistic arm etc.

I would also play a stock-loadout only game mode. But I fear, that only the best loadouts would be picked for this game mode as well, so that idea needs some tuning.
Random selection of stock-loadout Mechs, you will pilot one from? Exclude all advanced loadouts with DHSs?

Ammo amount would have be changed as well, since energy-heavy loadouts would be superior to ammo-dependent loadouts, which run out after a few shots.

Yes I used stock loadouts, but only in light mech variants. The heat management is often very bad, so I only use high mobile mechs.

I use an almost stock Catapult K2. I upgraded the engine slightly, double heat sinks and endo steel. But otherwise still has 2 PPCs 2 ML and 2 MG's. Also threw on an AMS. It works really well.

Close to this.

I used to play this CN9-A; it has DHS and ES upgrades, maxed armour and an extra ton of AC/10 ammo, but it's probably the closest thing to stock I've played (since closed beta anyway).

If you got your free CN9-A(c) this past weekend you might give it a try; if you play it as a close-support 'mech (latch on to a heavy or assault, fire at what they fire at and keep the lights off their back) it's not bad at all.
