I've noticed that with missile lock on, sometimes the reticle just does weird stuff. Is anyone else experiencing / able to explain this:
1. Reticle freezes close to end of animation, preventing missiles from being fired despite being held on the target.
2. Reticle takes an abnormally long time to lock on to certain targets, or simply pauses despite being held on target. E.g. fast moving lights.
BAP and Artemis don't seem to change this behaviour. Proximity of enemy ECM does seem to be a factor, but in such cases I'm carrying BAP and able to lock on to the target supposedly shielded by the ECM (so BAP must be doing its job).
This has happened to me often, but hasn't usually been a problem with LRMs since half the battle in boating LRMs is positioning. However now that I'm using streaks it's beginning to frustrate me!

Artemis will help lock on times for LRM missiles. Also, smaller missile launchers lock faster than larger ones. Streak missiles don't use Artemis, so it is a waste of money to get that upgrade if you only plan to use Streaks.
TAG will also speed up lock.
BAP does NOT help you get a faster lock on. BAP only speeds up getting the paper doll readout of your enemy status, 25% sensor range boost, and counters ECM at close range of 150 meters or less.
Pro tip, also use sensor range module as that will get you locks up to 250 meters to 180 meters, BAP or no BAP, getting rid of quite a lot of dead zone areas. With both installed you can nearly always use your Streaks, and even your LRM's.
However, even after you counter the ECM of an enemy you will still have a slow lock on. ECM that has been "defeated" is actually still helping the enemy guy by making it take longer to get a lock on him.
Hence the stuttering or pause effect you see when trying to get a lock.
With both a BAP and a Sensor Range module you will still see a small band where enemy ECM is still working, the infamous 150-180 meters range. It is only 20 meters wide, but any enemy that is moving in and out from you and crossing that dead zone is going to "feel" like you cannot lock on. What is happening is you are losing, but then regaining a lock on as he moves into that magic dead band area.

Occasionally i experience the same weird behavior as the OP while no enemy ECM
is around.
is around.

Your ping time also will affect your lock on. You can have a short lag spike that usually isn't that noticable, but your lock on times will freeze while it is going on.

I have a feeling that it might have something to do with latency, although mine is quite good. Sometimes I lead the target and my reticle locks on more reliably. Didn't know about the advanced sensor range perk, although I do equip that module in all of my lights since you're never standing still for seismic to kick in, and honestly **** air / artillery strikes.

If so that must be on the target side bcs i had a match a while back where i was capable of targetting the Jenner but not the Shadow Hawk i was fighting at the same time.
Luckily that is very a rare occasion...
