Wouldn't not getting shot up by LRMs be reason enough?
Carrying 2 or 3 tons of AMS ammo on my Jester, I have had more then one match where I ran out of ammo before I died, and it was usually well before. AMS ammo should be increased, 1500 might be sufficient, but 1000 isn't much in the grand scheme of things.

Machine gun ammo is 2000 rounds per ton and that is at least a .50 cal.
AMS ammo is smaller and should at least be the same amount or even more.

I don't necessarily think this logic is always true. Ams systems use special rounds designed to screw up missiles by ripping holes in them, knocking them off course, or detonating their payload. with the whole reloading and function of AMSs, its actually hard to fit large amounts of ammunition in them. Also, most modern AMS systems fire either 20mm or 25mm ammunition. 0.50 cal is 12.7mm, which is noticeably smaller. While the AMSs in BT may fire ammo smaller than 20mm, It probably isn't smaller by much.
regardless, I think we need to keep a boundary on the amount of ammunition the AMS can have per tonne just as a nerfing factor. I think 1250 or at most 1500 rounds is enough per tonne.
IDK, this whole concept is thrown out the window by Clan AMS anyway.
