No need to be sorry; you took a few nondescript guidelines and managed to piece together the rest of the body to fit the mojo almost perfectly. You were able to build this in a cave, WITH A BOX OF SCRAPS (Iron Man reference). All I used to have in my head about the Black Hand was just that it would have the "gas mask" head, but now I can actually have a much more clear image of what it would really look like while uncloaking behind a poptart or something and smacking it in the back with a Mace or some VSPL to the face. You did a damn good job.

Well, if anyone wants to take my concept, modify it to the new payload and run with it, feel free! I would say, since it doesn't fit the Celestial series, that maybe it's origins would be an early WoB era mech, like the Grand Crusader, before they got ultra stylized. One that never got past prototype, and was mothballed, but as the Jihad started to turn against them, they dusted it off, upgraded to cutting edge tech and sent it out on Headhunting missions, trying to kill Devlin Stone, Victor Steiner, Anastatius Focht, etc.

Here's my take on it. Kinda takes a bit from bishop's concept, but overall has a slightly more CBT/MWO chunky feel to it.

Also it's worth noting that not every mech the word of blake fielded was celestial, in fact, most of it was star league tech. Only the Manei Domini were given access to the celestial series omnimechs and tech of similar caliber. Honestly I like the celestials hard edges, but not the tapered fins. Overall I think they're cool though.

You could also add in fluff material saying that the mech was built on a heavily modified shadow hawk chassis further augmented by current era technology, and that it's void signature system made sure it often only appeared in the Shadow Divisions.

Here's my take on the Black Hand BK-H68 painted in the colours of the 52nd Shadow Division.

Chickenscratch compared to bishop's but I had fun drawing it.

PS: Bishop, any tips for an amateur like me? I took a photoshop course in school so I know the program, but im really best at image manipulation (my sig is an example) not painting, which I would like to learn more. My art skills could still use developing.

when it comes to the CGI stuff, I am a complete noob. I use it to manipulate and edit stuff too. Was your piece all computer rendered? I tend to start with a hand drawn piece, pencil, which might have a million extraneous lines, and when I get what I want, I out line that part in pen, erase the rest, then start playing with GIMP or Photoshop. even some stuff, simply using Microsoft Paint, lol.

One big thing IMO, is dynamic posing and stuff. So now I start doing a lot of thumbs and low quality orthos, to get the "true" image most times, then I stick figure a basic pose I think I want, and block it out, then start adding the details. What I need a lot of work on is the computers stuff, so I can take my barebones sketch, and learn how to mask and layer it.

If I find some time, I could probably throw up a bare bones step by step of a piece. I will keep that in mind for my next project, I think.

While I am not Bishop Steiner by any stretch of the imagination, I can offer one point of advice:
Practice.
The big difference between someone 'good' and someone 'not good' is frequently the amount of time put into something.
(Some) studies have shown it takes somewhere in the neighborhood of 10,000 hours to master something (think thats the right number...) which is: 10k hours actually doing it.

Sounds like a lot, but it adds up quicker than you might expect (especially if you actually enjoy doing it)

I use a drawing tablet and photoshop for my stuff. If you don't have one, I highly recommend getting one. Dont bother breaking the bank, a cheap one like the bamboo splash is only about 60 dollars and will serve you well if you pick it up. We had to get them for our digital art class.

Here's my somewhat less feeble attempt at doing art. I dug up some old shading tutorials and similar info and generally took more time on this one.

Also I made you some fluff material.

Black Hand BKH68: First sighted among Blakist forces in 3070, the Black Hand is a lightning fast heavy mech designed to take full advantage of its maneuverability and its Void Signature technology. Its reliance on such advanced electronic warfare suits means it is rarely seen outside the Word's elite Shadow Divisions. Often seen running in pairs or triplets, Black Hands use their Heavy PPCs to shave off enemy armor at a safer distance, before closing in and using their Maces and lasers to deliver a quick and brutal killing blow.

It's definitely getting better from your previous version, although I still personally am not a fan of the "boxy" CBT style (just not my cup of tea).

One way to get images into posts is to use the insert image icon. It's right under the emoticons button, to the left of the blue <> thing.

another is to simply right click on the image, hit copy image, then right click in the dialogue box and hit paste. Works for me, anyhow.

Maybe there's just something wrong with my computer's settings or something, as I haven't been able to quote any posts and several other things aren't working for me (including the insert image feature). I honestly don't know why these things aren't working for me, probably partially because this is the first forum website I've ever used.

Anyways, I noticed a typo in the link I typed before (but editing it didn't seem to fix it) so I'm going to run the risk of looking like a major fool and try again.

And if this doesn't work this time then I officially give up. XD

As for the art itself, it's a little bit chubby for my own personal preferences but it's still a good run overall.

(Darn it all, I clicked "Quote" and I see no sign of me quoting anything XP)

Yeah I'm not the best at drawing 'Mechs, since I have so much difficulty getting proportions right and so on, but as I often say there's no better way to improve than to try!
Maybe one day I'll be more on par with the real pro designers, but for now I'll just admit to my rookie status. XD

I've been trying to get drawn for almost a week now, and I simply can not get it all right.
one of the three things happens every time, sometimes more than one.
- Proportions so out of whack it's hard to look at
-legs so tiny compared to the torso the Space Hulk Community loves it
-Cockpit Glass way too big/small, or absolutely not in the right place

But I've got a system down-pat of drawing a straight clear line with pencil first then giving it the sketchy pen overlay that is a tiny bit messy to help hide the minor imperfections.
Also, side notes, I went more for the Second Picture Style of a Gas Mask, but still kept Mr. Steiner's Helmet style, because it just simply sent my jaw to the floor.
Otherwise, what I'll be putting up is a completely "raw" sketch, I can't/do not know how to do all this fancy computer editing. I'll at least scan it in, because my Camera takes photos like 240p youtube videos.
Finally, one question, With the Heavy PPC, Do you want a more "Mounted" style thing like MWO did with the Griffin and Wolvie's guns, or keep them like a separate rifle.
Images for Reference:
Griffin:
http://www.sarna.net...ile:Griffin.jpg
Wolverine:
http://www.sarna.net...e:Wolverine.jpg
Waneta:

Thanks for the wonderful idea, i've been looking for something to draw for awhile.

Good Luck and expect a Photo Soon,
Reconius

How's this? I was bored and stumbled across this forum, so I threw this together in MS Paint.

The big bulge on the back of the PPC is supposed to be the PPC Capacitor, and I drew it in 2D because I'm lazy and don't feel like putting in a whole lot of effort into anything (it's Friday night. :) )

Thoughts? Comments? Criticisms? Death threats?

Michigan references: Well in Flint no thoughts, comments, criticisms, or death threats happen. We just shoot first and shoot again and again.........and again just to make sure.

But in Deford: WE'D BE ALL RECNECKS YUP YUP YUP. We can't even say criticism here.

Moving right along. Nice job Tank (and you will most likely be the only one who understands these references).

LOL yeah, I get them. Gotta love Michigan!
