Another one of these threads. I've always found tier and rating systems particularly unhelpful, especially when it comes to cars, videogames, and mechs. It really should be stated in the first part of the OP that this list is an opinion and subjective.

From best to worst, the ranking threads are ranked as follows;
Best Mech Ranking List - 80Bit
Average Mech Ranking List - Victor Morson
Worst Mech Ranking List - MavRCK

See what I did there?

would you give Vic's thread a 3.5 Boar's Head or a 1 Awesome?

To be fair 80bit's was more or less accurate with just a few debatable options when it was written, but it's very, very outdated now.

For example it references not wanting to take the Jenner K with the extra module slot, but now, consumables are really important factors so suddenly that isn't out of the question anymore.

Also 'mechs like the Cataphract 4X were bottom of the barrel and are now just under the top dog.

There are some wonky things in there though, like having the 8R Awesome anything but *.

MavRCK's looks to be in a similar condition; advice that might not have been horrible several months ago but doesn't fit anymore.

Useful meeting planner:
http://www.timeandda...07&p1=43&p2=236

Just for convenient reference:
Friday 6pm US West Coast = Friday 9pm US East Coast = Saturday 10am Singapore.

Keep in mind that is prime playing time for us on the American continent, it may be a bit hard to sync up easily.

Now that is really a good guide. Thats how the mechs should be introduced to new players. Thank you for that information.

You are free to go ahead and make a proposal, Mycrus was the only one from your team who made a suggestion which was Saturday morning your time.

Vic and I basically suggested the same time frame as when you guys ran into us per the posted video. Which was Nov 16 Saturday daytime GMT+8, probably very late Nov 15 Friday evening our time.

Tell you what: get your team together and propose several time blocks around our evenings or weekends, just as we have proposed working around your weekends. In any other cross-continent online competitions this almost surely translates to Friday or Saturday evening GMT-5, equivalently Saturday or Sunday late morning GMT+8.

MavRCK's topic also started out in the "New Players" section. Kind of odd when you think about it, why would competitive players give advice to new casual players? Casual and competitive are two completely different ball games. There's no room for error in competitive play, which has an amplification effect on the quirks of any given mech, exaggerating its competitive usefulness. This just isn't the case in casual play, where presumably 99% of new players spend their career.

I don't get how you can expect anyone to take your opinions seriously when you dedicate the entire thread to mocking and berating anyone who questions them in the slightest way. I think I'll look for advice elsewhere.

OP is a term used as a descriptive substitute for the name or title referring to a cute, monkey-like mammal native to the Clan Homeworlds that the lower Castes keep as pets.

I think Victor wrote that way back in closed beta, where the srm awesome was pretty good. Anyways, looking forward to seeing this match, perhaps if someone could stream it that would be great.

Ouch. The meta must have been different back then, right? Just like how the meta will be different again in a few weeks... which just adds to the uselessness of these rankings. I'm a man of science at heart, and I have yet to see any empirical data gathering efforts when it comes to these rankings. Not only that, but the fact that there is no scientific reproducibility involved with these lists just adds to their dubious nature.

Closed beta's various meta (metii?) were all quite different from today's.

Closed beta = no HSR, hot PPCs. Very few people ran weapons with pinpoint convergence since hit detection was poor. Then Gauss was buffed somehow -- at the time it was insta-fire -- and the K2 Gausscat rose to the top, what with 30 point alpha and zero heat. Lots of matches became peekaboo around corners shooting with Gauss. Then Gauss was nerfed by making them fragile.

At some point SSRMs and SRMs were quite OP, so there were many brawler builds such as the Streakcat, Splatcat, Atlas D 3xSRM6, and of course the AWS SRM boat.

I have to say though since HSR and improvements on hit detection / hitboxes, the meta has changed quite a bit but top players and teams still favor pinpoint weapons. Lots of non-competitive players gave up on PPC as soon as the heat was upped, but PPCs are still great for good shooters.

And nope, I'm a poor shooter myself.

Oh yeah, I'm with you. It was more of a redundant question that I was posing, I've been here since closed beta. I was just pointing out some of the cognitive biases involved with a lot of these rankings. Call of Duty still gets a '9 out of 10' for being the same iterative game it was the year prior. I've never trusted review scores, top 10 lists, tier rankings, or any critique that assigns arbitrary and superfluous numbers or scoring. They're just lists based off personal experience and taste, even if the author's claim there's a consensus.
