Op you will find there are invisable terrain problems at minimum settings. You may find yourself shooting a mech that you think you have line of sight on but actually dont. If you find your shots doing no dmg it may be this

Tomshardware has some good "Best card for your money" articles it publishes every month (example here), and at the end, there's a nice chart on expected performance.
I would recommend sticking with nVidia at the moment. Most folks I know who have issues with MWO had AMD cards, and their drivers have always been a little suspect.

Raise "Environment" detail for longest terrain view distance. This causes all worldly details to go up a bit though.
Raise "Objects" to have mechs render in more detail at longer range, allowing you to see them farther away. Causes mech details (the most taxing of all) to go up.
