I live in S.E.Asia. My ping is not wonderful. My ping varies by time of day, but quite randomly (usually it's better after midnight).

Is there any way of checking ping without entering a game? I'd love to be able to log on and see if it's worth getting into a game.

Try visiting http://www.pingtest.net/index.php

Use the Settings button on the top left to change the target location to Sudbury, On [CA] (this is the closest one I can find to the MWO server location in Toronto, ON)

The Sudbury, ON location roughly matches my ping when I play MWO, try it once on a normal day to see if it gives you a similar ping to your normal MWO ping. (bonus points if you try it at multiple times of day to see if it fluctuates in the same way)

I don't belive PGi has servers close to Asia so naturally your ping willl be bad .

F1 brings out FPS. High ping can effect FPS rate so i hope that helps .

Then again ping during a game will obviously be higher than ping during main screen

Open the command processor (DOS box). If you can't find it use the RUN box (pre win7) or SEARCH PROGRAMS AND FILES box (win7 and later) from the START icon on the left of your task bar. Enter CMD in the box and press ENTER. Should bring up the DOS window. Enter:

ping 70.42.29.65

It will ping the address 4 times and give you the average. If the 1st of the 4 pings seems large run it a second time (up arrow will insert last command... your ping command). The second run should be accurate. You can replace the IP with and name to find other pings, such as "ping ms.com" or "ping google.com", et.

Also, if you want to know the path your data is travelling try:

tracert 70.42.29.65

Again you can replace the IP with any address/name you desire. tracert is short for "trace route" which will trace the route of your signal to/from your destination IP.

Hope this helps.

How bad is it? I play with Lancemates based in SE Asia, and our pings are usually around 200-230.

It does occasionally create problems when trying to shoot very low-ping opponents who are in fast chassis, but generally, the game is still quite playable.
