What do ya think? I want to try an Assault with an AC/20 and jumps. The overweight class is not my strong point (only assault I ever kept was my STK-3F). Mostly because maneuverability is a strong plus for me!

My fav & best mechs are under 60T: Dragons, Blackjacks, and Shawks. And I never excelled in my Ilya or Jagers, for whatever reason. LOL. Different strokes...

thanks.

Victor: Much more maneuverable and versatile

Highlander: More armored and armed, but slow

Pick your poison.

The Victor has a higher engine class than the Highlander and can go 85 KPH max. It will seem slow on turning and twisting compared to your favored mechs but you will get used to it.

If you don't do well in slower mechs, definately Victor, because HGN never surpasses 65 kph, even with max engine. Note that this is WITH speed tweak.

If you like to have something that "moves" under yourself, then get the Victor. With those pretty high engine ratings, you can enjoy an assault that drives like an heavy, with JJs too. Best variant is probably the 9S, 9K if you like to climb the mountains, 9B if you like 3xAC2s (I got rid of both the last two, kept only the 9S and went for a Dragon Slayer in the latest special forces sale).

I like the Victor, however I prefer Heavy and Medium mechs over Assault mechs. The Victor plays more like a slow Heavy compared to the other Assaults.

If you want more firepower and don't mind being slower and having less manuverabilty than an oil tanker ship, the Highlander is a good choice (especially if you do want a piece of the jump snipe meta).

I am with you too. I like Mediums and Heavies. Most of my mech bay is those 2.

I prefer the Victor for its speed, though the Highlander can mount more firepower and armor.

One key weakness on the Highlander is the dependency on the right torso and the near complete lack of energy weapons in the arms, leaving them vulnerable to fast moving lights.

That being said, both are considered excellent mechs - go without fits your play style.

Armor doesn't have anything on speed and agility.

You can have all the armor in the world (Atlas) but that doesn't mean a thing if you can't get out of the line of fire.

Well, you say you prefer agility so the choice is pretty obvious. Victor!

Just be warned in advance if you do pick a Victor that at high engine ratings the speed its cockpit shakes about is ludicrous. It's like the whole 'Mech is on meth. Why the devs decided to speed the 'Mech animations up to "realistic" rates is a mystery, it looks daft. If it was canon every pilot of a fast Heavy or Assault in the IS would be hospitalized by nausea, spine, pelvis and a$$ injuries in short order.

Victors and Highlanders tend to have similar levels of weaponry. For the most part you're going to be wanting to use a combination of PPCs and ballistics.

The advantages of the Victor are that it has the best hit boxes in the game, allowing it to soak a ton of damage even with an XL engine. However, this is mainly an advantage in PUG matches, where things tend to get a bit more chaotic and you're less likely to have specific parts targeted by multiple mechs. This allows you to maintain decent mobility as well. The fact that all your weapons are in your arms allows for fast pin-point targeting as well. However, since your weapons are low and wide you can have problems hitting fast-moving lights at short range, and you'll have to jump higher to fire over obstacles and other mechs.

The advantages of the Highlander are a higher armor total, meaning that your defenses are not compromised by the skill level of the enemy as they are in a Victor. In addition, having all of your weapons mounted on your right side and close to each other means that with careful firing they're very easy to hit pin-point targets, and you can make better use of cover. XL engines just don't work well in Highlanders, despite the fact that on most builds you lose your important weaponry with your RT anyways.

"Mostly because maneuverability is a strong plus for me!" Get the victors and elite them.

In order to get the best from a victor you need a big engine and that means taking an XL, i dont usually have a problem with my side torso's but its something to take into consideration.

The highlander is a beast it can take nearly as much punishment as an atlas but thanks to JJ is far more agile, it does however suffer from asymmetry so losing your right side torso means losing your weapons, and people will go for your right torso.

Both have plus's and negatives but if you used to faster mechs the victor is the way to go.

If we have similar styles of game play I'd say the Victor.

Some people are content with lumbering into a position and sniping from that position hoping that a smarter, more competent, agile warrior will pick their shots, move in and out of position, and giving stationary pop tarts a run for their money.

I've kept all my assaults but the Victor remains my favourite (and I didn't care for it in earlier MW games.)

Victor seriously has more going for it, unless your an LRM numpty in which case, keep the hell of the grass ! and don't pollute my Victors with your can't shoot straight won't go first mentality <_<

Yes I go on about the sadness of multiple lrms in assaults and will for ever do so, but in the victors case you have just thrown away the point of Victors, which are medium range brawlers (anything under 1000 meters is medium in my book btw).

Don't get me wrong , I walked away in disgust from this game, when in its pitifully woeful condition it was declared good enough for open beta, and only came back because of the Heavy Metal, and been supporting the game with my hard earned cash, ever since, and I do like them (having all the variants in my garage), but the victor is everything a good assault should be, hard hitting and as nimble as 80 tonnes of hurt can be, and part of me really really wants death from above in as it will make it so much better.

P.S. scrubs take of JJ's in the VTR and HGN :)
