Just a idea here. But would it be possible for some maps to start including wind/lightning and other affects?

The idea would be for it to have a negative affect on our projectile rounds based on the size of them and how fast they move and the affect would feel more noticeable at longer ranges.

So just like how we have hot maps to limit the use of alpha strikes and what not these windy maps would make us either consider the likely hood of a miss if we fire our AC20/10 at extreme range and if we do fire, itd make us take the direction of the wind into account. But when we fire lighter rounds like Ac2s/Ac5s and LBX10s they would be less affected.

Maybe it could also slow down the acceleration of lighter mechs if they move against the wind but also increase it if they move with the wind. And also have it potentially speed up our rounds/LRMs/SRMs if they are fired with the wind. (Maybe..)

We could also include the direction of wind movement in one of our mechs unused screens

Another example would be for maps with volcanoes. Make the volcano erupt- thus causing a sudden heat spike on our mechs. To warn players of how long it is until a eruption maybe have a counter on the HuD to let us know.

Only if a strong breeze (say, at the entrance to a valley) can knock over a Spider.

IS gyro's need the pilot neuro helmets to help balance themselves and to know when to lean and be off balance -- for bracing themselves and such.

Clan Gyro's are far more advanced, and can even compensate themselves for minor winds and running bobble, making much more stable firing platforms.

Read Pht's long post about how they work, great read.

@topic, would love to see concepts like these in game, but alas. PGI.

This is an area that would really help with immersion and realism; we have discussed it before some time ago and I think that partly resulted in the snow particles. There are loads of affects that could be added, especially taking into account the extra shader abilities of Direct X 11. One of the visual effects that I would love to see is actual animation of the Aurora in Frozen City Night, this would be stunning.

Several months back we discussed tidal effects in Forest Colony, things like whirl pools and currents that would affect speed through water together with shifting seabed's, where the Mech's could actually fall over. Another spectacular effect would be water spouts, imagine moving in from the sea to take up a Sniping position to cover the shipwreck ; as you round the big rock there it is, a water spout, towering in front of you. Break or be drawn into the vortex and smashed against the rock, arms being ripped of your Atlas.

Sure, not a bad idea.

Though logic would say that lighter rounds should be affected by wind more than heavier rounds.

Up to a point your right Owlfeathers, certainly very light ballistic rounds like the sub munitions fired from the LBX10 Scattershot. With the heavy rounds, their sheer weight should overcome the wind effects at close range, however at long range as they slow things change and zonal effects come into play; I discovered a lot about this area when working with the British Army Field Artillery.

An area that I'm not so sure about is that of sub-atomic particles like those fired from the PPC & ERPPC; physics come into play in that world that may change things. It would be very interesting to know if Ion or Magnetic storms or even post Nuclear explosion background radiation / fallout would affect the PPC? The reason I ask is because someone suggested an urban map based on a heavily irradiated city which looked really good. See Below:

Nuclear Wasteland
Map Size: Medium
Temperature: Cold
Weather: Radioactive Fog
Key Features: Planet filled with trash and debris

Well my thinking with the lighter rounds is that they are traveling at such high velocities that the wind would affect them less since they would sort of "Pierce the wind" where as a slower round like a AC20 would sorta be almost drifting along.

Think of it as a semi truck on a high way vs a small car. one is gonna feel the wind WAY more
